Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide direct, hands-on assistance to senior technicians during the installation, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and maintenance of complex mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Prepare and set up equipment, tools, and necessary materials for specific jobs, tests, or experiments, ensuring everything is in working order and compliant with project requirements.
  • Execute routine preventative maintenance schedules on machinery and technical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational longevity, following established checklists and procedures.
  • Accurately document all maintenance activities, service logs, test results, and procedural deviations in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or detailed logbooks.
  • Manage the inventory of technical spare parts, components, and consumable supplies, conducting regular stock counts and initiating procurement requests to prevent shortages.
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual inspections on equipment and components to identify faults, wear and tear, or potential issues, and report findings to the supervising technician.
  • Assemble and disassemble complex technical apparatus, equipment, or sub-assemblies according to detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and safety within the workshop, laboratory, or technical work area, including the proper storage of tools and disposal of waste.
  • Strictly adhere to all company and industry-specific safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Collect, label, and prepare samples for testing and analysis, ensuring sample integrity and accurate chain of custody documentation.
  • Assist in the fabrication or modification of parts and fixtures using basic machine shop tools under the guidance of experienced personnel.
  • Conduct basic quality control checks on components and finished products to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Pack, unpack, and transport sensitive technical equipment and materials, both within the facility and for shipment to external sites.
  • Monitor the performance of equipment during operation, taking readings and noting any abnormalities for review by the technical team.
  • Assist in creating and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for maintenance and operational tasks.
  • Support the setup and teardown of demonstration equipment for training, trade shows, or customer visits.
  • Perform data entry tasks related to project tracking, parts ordering, and work order management to ensure records are current and accurate.
  • Respond to immediate needs for technical support on the production floor or in the lab, acting as a first line of assistance.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory glassware, instruments, and work surfaces to prevent contamination and ensure accurate experimental results.
  • Aid in the validation and qualification of new equipment by executing predefined test protocols and recording the outcomes.

  • Participate actively in daily team huddles, project meetings, and safety briefings to stay informed and contribute to process improvements.
  • Assist in the onboarding and informal training of new team members on basic operational tasks, tool usage, and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in the safe and effective use of a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and specialty diagnostic equipment.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documentation, including schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Foundational knowledge of either mechanical, electrical, or electronic principles relevant to the specific industry.
  • Competency with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
