Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assist lead coaches in delivering high-quality, engaging gymnastics instruction to children and teens in recreational and developmental programs.
- Demonstrate proper techniques for fundamental gymnastic skills across various apparatus, including floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars, and vault, adapting for different age groups.
- Provide consistent, hands-on spotting for gymnasts during skill acquisition and practice to ensure their physical safety and build confidence in attempting new elements.
- Implement pre-designed lesson plans and curriculums, ensuring a structured, progressive, and fun learning environment for all participants.
- Actively supervise students throughout the entire class to maintain a safe and controlled environment, confidently enforcing all gym rules and safety protocols.
- Lead engaging and age-appropriate warm-up and cool-down exercises, including dynamic stretching and basic conditioning, to prepare athletes for activity and help prevent injuries.
- Manage small groups of students during apparatus rotations, ensuring they remain on task, are actively participating in drills, and understand the instructions.
- Provide constant positive reinforcement, encouragement, and constructive feedback to gymnasts to foster their self-esteem, resilience, and passion for the sport.
- Identify individual student needs and adapt instructional methods or drills to accommodate different learning styles, physical abilities, and skill levels.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with lead coaches regarding student progress, behavioral issues, or any safety concerns that arise during class.
- Assist in evaluating gymnast skill levels and tracking their progress using skill charts, checklists, and other assessment tools provided by the program.
- Be prepared to administer basic first aid and follow established emergency procedures in the event of an injury, immediately notifying a supervisor and documenting the incident.
- Set up, adjust, and break down gymnastics equipment safely and efficiently before, during, and after classes, ensuring all settings are correct for the specific age and skill level.
Secondary Functions
- Build a strong, positive rapport with both students and their parents, serving as a friendly, approachable role model and ambassador for the gymnastics program.
- Greet parents and gymnasts upon arrival and departure, fostering a welcoming and professional atmosphere within the gym.
- Assist with light administrative tasks as needed, such as taking class attendance, distributing flyers, or answering basic parent questions about schedules and policies.
- Participate actively in mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops to enhance coaching skills and stay updated on program changes.
- Support the setup, execution, and cleanup of special events, such as internal showcases, parent-watch weeks, holiday parties, or in-house fun meets.
- Help maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the training area, ensuring mats are clean, chalk is contained, and equipment is stored properly.
- Stay current with industry trends and basic USA Gymnastics (USAG) guidelines for safety, skill progression, and athlete wellness.
- Collaborate with other assistant trainers and coaching staff to ensure seamless class transitions, consistent instruction, and a unified team approach.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Solid knowledge of fundamental gymnastics, tumbling, or cheerleading techniques (e.g., rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges, basic bar swings).
- Proficiency in safe and effective spotting techniques for a variety of beginner and intermediate skills to prevent injury.
- Understanding of gymnastics equipment setup, safety checks, and proper mat placement for various drills and skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification, or the willingness and ability to obtain certification upon hiring.
- Experience with class management strategies for groups of children, ensuring a controlled and productive learning environment.
- Familiarity with basic skill progression charts and the structure of a typical gymnastics lesson plan.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
