Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide an exceptional client experience through professional and friendly shampooing, conditioning, and relaxing scalp massages tailored to individual client needs.
  • Assist senior stylists with a full range of services, including meticulously mixing color formulas, preparing foils, and providing hands-on support during color and chemical treatment applications.
  • Prepare clients for their services by expertly gowning, detangling hair, and ensuring they are comfortable and ready for their appointment with the stylist.
  • Perform high-quality blowouts and basic styling as directed by senior stylists, providing a fantastic opportunity to build your technical proficiency and client-handling skills.
  • Greet and welcome clients with a warm and professional demeanor, ensuring a positive first impression and a seamless transition to their service.
  • Actively observe senior stylists during client consultations and technical services to learn advanced communication strategies and cutting-edge techniques.
  • Educate clients on salon-exclusive products and personalized aftercare routines to help them maintain their style and drive retail sales goals.
  • Create a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere for all guests, offering refreshments and ensuring their comfort and satisfaction throughout their entire salon visit.
  • Proactively anticipate the needs of both stylists and clients to ensure a seamless, efficient, and high-end service experience from start to finish.
  • Carefully rinse color and chemical treatments, paying close attention to detail to ensure client safety, comfort, and optimal results.
  • Handle client inquiries with professionalism, providing helpful information and directing them to the appropriate stylist or manager when necessary.

Secondary Functions

  • Meticulously maintain the overall cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of the salon, including sweeping hair, sanitizing stations and tools, and adhering to all state board regulations.
  • Ensure all styling stations are fully stocked with necessary tools, products, and clean towels before, during, and after each client appointment.
  • Manage salon laundry duties, including washing, drying, and folding towels and capes to maintain a constant, ready supply.
  • Assist with front desk and reception operations as needed, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments using salon software, and processing client payments.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels for both professional back bar products and retail items, alerting the salon manager when supplies are running low.
  • Participate in and contribute to salon opening and closing procedures, ensuring the environment is perfectly prepared for the team and clients.
  • Assist with the visual merchandising of the retail area to create attractive, engaging displays that encourage client interest and purchases.
  • Support the salon's marketing efforts by assisting with content creation for social media, such as taking before-and-after photos or videos (with client permission).
  • Actively participate in all mandatory team meetings and ongoing educational workshops to continuously develop technical skills and stay current with industry trends.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment by offering proactive support to colleagues and maintaining open, professional communication.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Shampooing & Conditioning: Proficient in various shampooing, conditioning, and scalp massage techniques.
  • Product Knowledge: Foundational understanding of professional haircare lines, including their use and benefits.
  • Basic Blow-Drying: Ability to perform a basic blowout and use a round brush effectively.
  • Color Theory Basics: Knowledge of the color wheel, formula mixing, and safe application support.
  • Sanitation & Hygiene: Strong knowledge of state board sanitation regulations and sterilization protocols.
  • Salon Software: Familiarity with booking and POS systems (e.g., Phorest, Fresha, Meevo 2) is a plus.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited Cosmetology program or have recently graduated.

Preferred Education:

  • Licensed Cosmetologist in the state of practice.

Experience Requirements
