Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Expertly operate a variety of commercial pressing equipment, including steam presses, puff irons, form finishers, and hand irons, to apply a professional finish to garments.
- Meticulously press and finish a wide range of garments, such as shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, suits, and jackets, ensuring all wrinkles, creases, and imperfections are removed.
- Perform rigorous quality control inspections on all finished items, identifying and correcting any pressing errors, missed spots, or damages to uphold the company's commitment to excellence.
- Read and interpret finishing instructions on production tickets or garment care labels to apply the correct techniques and temperature settings for various fabric types.
- Handle delicate and specialty fabrics such as silk, linen, wool, and synthetics with appropriate care to prevent scorching, shining, or damage.
- Master the techniques for creating sharp, professional creases in trousers and shirt sleeves while ensuring a smooth finish on all other areas.
- Shape garments correctly on the press or by hand to restore their original form and fit, paying close attention to collars, cuffs, and lapels.
- Meet and exceed daily and weekly production quotas and deadlines without compromising the quality of the finished product.
- Prepare and organize finished garments for the next stage of production, which may include folding, bagging, hanging, and tagging items according to company standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work station, ensuring all tools and equipment are stored properly at the end of each shift.
- Monitor the performance and condition of pressing equipment, performing routine maintenance such as cleaning press heads, changing pads, and checking water levels.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or supply needs to the department supervisor in a timely manner to prevent downtime.
- Identify and separate garments that require re-cleaning, stain treatment, or repair before the pressing process begins.
- Use specialized finishing tools, such as sleeve forms and shoulder bucks, to achieve a superior finish on tailored clothing.
- Collaborate effectively with team members in other departments, such as sorting and assembly, to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of different garment constructions and how they react to heat, steam, and pressure.
- Manage workflow efficiently to prioritize rush orders or special requests while maintaining the pace of standard production.
- Apply final touches to high-value or intricate items, such as bridal gowns or formal wear, ensuring they are flawless for the client.
- Consistently stand for extended periods, lift bundles of clothing, and perform repetitive motions with hands and arms as a core function of the job.
