Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Precisely lay out, measure, and align stencils on various surfaces such as metal, plastic, wood, and concrete according to engineering blueprints and work orders.
  • Apply paint, ink, or other marking mediums using brushes, rollers, or aerosol cans to create clear, legible, and durable characters, symbols, or designs.
  • Prepare product surfaces for stenciling by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, or masking to ensure optimal adhesion and a high-quality finish.
  • Select the correct stencils, paints, and application tools for each job based on material specifications and environmental conditions.
  • Perform visual quality control inspections on all completed work to ensure markings are accurate, complete, and free from defects like smudges, runs, or overspray.
  • Mix paints and other solutions to achieve the correct color, consistency, and viscosity as required by specific project guidelines.
  • Operate hand and power tools, such as grinders, sanders, and cleaning equipment, to properly prepare and finish surfaces.
  • Interpret complex technical drawings, work instructions, and customer specification sheets to determine marking requirements and placement.
  • Carefully handle and position large or awkwardly shaped components, often with the assistance of hoists or other team members, to access stenciling areas.
  • Maintain a consistent pace of work to meet production schedules and deadlines without compromising quality or safety.
  • Document completed work, including recording part numbers, job orders, and any deviations from the standard process for traceability purposes.
  • Follow detailed instructions for multi-layer or multi-color stenciling applications, ensuring proper drying times between coats.
  • Secure stencils firmly to curved, uneven, or complex surfaces to prevent paint bleeding and ensure sharp, defined edges.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by properly storing tools, materials, and cleaning up spills promptly.
  • Perform routine maintenance on stenciling equipment, including cleaning stencils, brushes, and paint pots to ensure they remain in good working condition.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like respirators, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of stenciling supplies, such as paints, thinners, and brushes, and report shortages to the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other production team members, supervisors, and quality inspectors to resolve issues and ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Suggest potential improvements to the stenciling process to increase efficiency, enhance quality, or improve safety.
  • Assist in other areas of the production line or paint department as needed during periods of high demand or staff shortages.
