Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute a variety of advanced hand-stitching techniques, particularly saddle stitching, to assemble luxury goods with precision and consistency.
- Meticulously read and interpret complex design specifications, technical drawings, and patterns to ensure flawless execution of each product.
- Prepare materials for stitching, which includes precise cutting of patterns, skiving leather to the correct thickness, and expertly finishing edges through painting or burnishing.
- Select the appropriate type and size of thread, needles, and awls based on the specific material, design requirements, and desired aesthetic.
- Conduct continuous in-process quality control checks on your own work to identify and rectify any imperfections, ensuring every piece meets our stringent standards.
- Perform final assembly of multi-component products, ensuring perfect alignment and structural integrity through precise stitching and construction.
- Skillfully attach and secure hardware, including buckles, clasps, and zippers, ensuring they are both functional and perfectly placed according to design.
- Meet established production goals and deadlines without ever compromising the superior quality and craftsmanship expected of our brand.
- Maintain a full set of personal hand tools, ensuring they are kept clean, sharp, and in optimal condition for high-precision work.
- Expertly handle a range of materials, from robust leathers to delicate and exotic skins, applying specialized techniques to prevent any damage.
- Hand-tie and finish all seams with secure, clean knots, guaranteeing the long-term durability and refined appearance of the finished product.
- Work on creating and developing prototypes and samples for new collections, collaborating directly with the design team to bring new concepts to life.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe personal workspace in adherence to all company and OSHA safety standards.
- Assist in mentoring and training junior stitchers and apprentices, sharing knowledge and demonstrating proper techniques to elevate the entire team's skill level.
- Collaborate with the production team and designers to provide constructive feedback on construction methods, material performance, and potential process improvements.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of raw materials, such as leather hides and thread spools, and report any defects or variations to the supply chain manager.
