Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute comprehensive diagnostic tests on complex electromechanical systems to accurately identify hardware malfunctions, performance bottlenecks, and root causes of failure.
  • Perform intricate repairs and replacements of faulty components, including circuit boards, processors, power supplies, and mechanical assemblies, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct the installation, configuration, and calibration of new hardware systems and equipment, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement a proactive preventive maintenance schedule for all assigned hardware to minimize unplanned downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Disassemble and reassemble complex machinery and electronic devices with precision to access, repair, or upgrade internal components.
  • Read, interpret, and apply technical documentation, including schematics, blueprints, and service manuals, to guide troubleshooting and repair processes.
  • Utilize a wide array of specialized diagnostic tools and software, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and proprietary testing applications, to analyze system performance.
  • Meticulously document all maintenance activities, repairs, and component replacements in our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for accurate record-keeping and trend analysis.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to end-users and other technical teams, effectively communicating complex technical issues and resolutions.
  • Manage the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process for defective parts, coordinating with vendors for repairs or replacements.
  • Perform firmware and driver updates on various hardware devices to ensure compatibility, security, and optimal functionality.
  • Test and validate repaired hardware to confirm that all issues have been resolved and the equipment meets all performance and safety standards.
  • Safely handle and install sensitive server, storage, and networking hardware within data center environments, following strict rack and stack procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware-software integration issues, collaborating with software engineering teams when necessary.
  • Execute precise soldering and de-soldering techniques for board-level repairs on intricate electronic circuit boards.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and essential supplies, proactively ordering new stock to prevent shortages.
  • Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of new tools, technologies, and equipment that can improve efficiency and repair quality.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety regulations and protocols, including ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) precautions, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices, sharing knowledge of best practices and complex repair techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to provide feedback on hardware design for manufacturability (DFM) and serviceability.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and suggesting enhancements to maintenance procedures and workflows.
  • Manage the disposition and recycling of obsolete or non-repairable electronic hardware in accordance with environmental policies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in using electronic diagnostic tools, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supply testers.
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex technical documents, such as electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrated skill in board-level diagnostics and repair, including micro-soldering and de-soldering of surface-mount (SMD) and through-hole components.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware architecture, including CPUs, memory, storage systems (HDD/SSD), and motherboards.
  • Experience with the physical installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of server, networking, and storage hardware in a data center or similar environment.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, gears, and drive systems.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux) for diagnostic and configuration purposes.
  • Ability to perform firmware upgrades and manage hardware drivers effectively.
  • Competence in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for logging work orders and tracking assets.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) prevention best practices and proper handling procedures for sensitive electronic components.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, coupled with a technical certification (e.g., A+, CompTIA A+, or similar).

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-7 years of direct, hands-on experience in a hardware repair, maintenance, or field service role.

Preferred: Experience working in a data center, manufacturing facility, or with enterprise-level IT hardware is highly advantageous.
