Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Manage the complete lifecycle of incubation, from receiving and grading eggs to carefully placing them in incubator setter racks according to production schedules.
  • Meticulously monitor and regulate environmental conditions within setters and hatchers, including temperature, humidity, and airflow, using automated systems and manual checks.
  • Execute the transfer of eggs from setters to hatcher baskets at the precise developmental stage, ensuring minimal stress and maximum hatch potential.
  • Oversee the "pulling" of hatches, carefully removing newly hatched chicks or fingerlings, and accurately counting, grading, and sorting them based on quality and health standards.
  • Administer critical vaccinations, treatments, or nutrient supplements to newly hatched animals via spray or injection, following strict veterinary and company guidelines.
  • Prepare and package animals for transport, ensuring containers are clean, properly ventilated, and provide a safe environment for delivery to farms.
  • Implement and rigorously enforce all biosecurity measures, including shower-in/shower-out procedures, facility-wide sanitation, and controlled access to prevent disease introduction.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning and disinfection of all hatchery rooms, equipment, trays, and ventilation systems to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Conduct routine monitoring and quality control checks on eggs and hatchlings, identifying and documenting any abnormalities, deformities, or signs of poor health.
  • Maintain precise and detailed records of key performance indicators, including egg settings, fertility rates, hatchability percentages, and mortality rates.
  • Skillfully operate, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on complex hatchery machinery such as incubators, vaccinators, and washing equipment.
  • Manage egg and chick/fingerling inventories, ensuring proper stock rotation (first-in, first-out) and accurate tracking for production planning.
  • Observe and care for the health and welfare of all animals within the hatchery, promptly reporting any signs of distress or disease to management.
  • Systematically collect and prepare samples, such as fluff or swabs, for laboratory analysis to monitor for pathogens and ensure flock health.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals.

  • Assist the maintenance team in diagnosing and repairing more complex mechanical or electrical issues with hatchery equipment.
  • Contribute to the training and onboarding of new hatchery personnel, demonstrating proper techniques and adherence to protocols.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and safety briefings, providing input for continuous improvement of processes and workplace safety.
  • Manage the receiving, storage, and inventory of hatchery supplies, including cleaning agents, vaccines, and equipment parts.
  • Support research and development trials by collecting specific data, implementing test protocols, and providing detailed feedback on results.
