Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and orchestrate all facets of a competitive football program, establishing a clear vision and culture of excellence that aligns with the institution's values and mission.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive and innovative game strategies, playbooks, and in-game adjustments to maximize team performance and competitive advantage.
  • Design and execute a rigorous, year-round practice and training schedule, focusing on skill development, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and player safety.
  • Lead the recruitment and retention of academically qualified and athletically gifted student-athletes, managing the entire recruiting cycle from identification and evaluation to official visits and commitments.
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the coaching staff, including assistant coaches and support personnel, by delegating responsibilities, fostering professional growth, and conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Oversee the academic progress of all student-athletes in the program, collaborating with academic support services to ensure eligibility, promote graduation, and support their intellectual development.
  • Manage the football program's operational budget with fiscal responsibility, including allocations for recruiting, team travel, equipment, and staff salaries.
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all institutional, conference, and national governing body (e.g., NCAA, NAIA) rules, regulations, and bylaws, maintaining meticulous records and promoting a culture of integrity.
  • Serve as the primary public figure and spokesperson for the football program, engaging professionally with media, alumni, donors, and the broader community to build support and enhance the program's brand.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with alumni, boosters, and potential donors, actively participating in fundraising initiatives and stewardship events to secure financial support for the program.
  • Mentor student-athletes in their personal and character development, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship that prepare them for success in life beyond football.
  • Supervise and coordinate with the strength and conditioning staff to implement a sport-specific training program that enhances athletic performance and minimizes the risk of injury.
  • Direct the breakdown and analysis of game and practice film, using video technology to provide constructive feedback to players and staff and to scout upcoming opponents effectively.
  • Establish and enforce team policies regarding conduct, discipline, and expectations, holding student-athletes and staff accountable to the highest standards on and off the field.
  • Coordinate all logistical aspects of team travel, including transportation, lodging, and meals, to ensure a seamless and professional experience for road games and events.
  • Organize, promote, and direct summer football camps, clinics, and other outreach programs to engage the community, aid in recruiting, and generate revenue for the program.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on strategic planning, facility enhancements, scheduling of future opponents, and other high-level administrative functions.
  • Oversee the selection, procurement, and maintenance of all team equipment and apparel, ensuring player safety and proper inventory management in line with the budget.
  • Develop a comprehensive player evaluation system to track progress, provide individualized feedback, and create clear development plans for each member of the team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of every student-athlete, working closely with athletic trainers and medical staff.
  • Build a robust network of high school coaches, junior college coaches, and community leaders to serve as a foundation for long-term recruiting success and program visibility.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the athletic department with ad-hoc reporting on program metrics, including recruiting analytics, academic progress rates, and competitive outcomes.
  • Contribute to the athletic department's long-term strategic plan, offering insights on competitive trends, student-athlete welfare, and facility needs.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements
