Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Spearhead the development, articulation, and execution of the organization's comprehensive long-term research strategy, ensuring it supports and anticipates future business needs.
  • Provide inspirational leadership, professional development, and direct mentorship to a multidisciplinary team of researchers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

  • Act as the primary translator of complex research findings, synthesizing data into compelling narratives and actionable strategic recommendations for the executive team and board of directors.
  • Proactively identify and evaluate emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies to keep the organization at the forefront of its field and identify new avenues for investigation.

  • Drive the dissemination of key findings through peer-reviewed publications, white papers, conference presentations, and internal knowledge-sharing platforms to build organizational and industry-wide influence.
  • Build and nurture a strong network of external relationships with academic institutions, industry consortia, and other research partners to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Define, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the research function, demonstrating its value and return on investment to the organization.
  • Guide the team in navigating highly ambiguous or complex problem spaces, providing a clear framework for investigation and a structured approach to discovery.
  • Directly collaborate with the heads of Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to ensure research insights are deeply embedded into the product development lifecycle and go-to-market strategies.

  • Ensure all research activities are compliant with relevant legal and privacy regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA, championing a "privacy-by-design" approach.
  • Secure project funding and resources by authoring persuasive grant proposals, crafting compelling internal business cases, and presenting clear value propositions to stakeholders.
  • Lead the strategic selection, procurement, and implementation of new research tools, technologies, and data sources to enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, create individualized development plans, and manage the career progression for all members of the research team.
