Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a dedicated team of technicians, managing daily work schedules, assigning tasks based on skill and priority, and ensuring a high standard of performance and professional conduct.
  • Serve as the final point of technical escalation for the most complex and persistent equipment, system, or network issues, providing expert-level diagnostics and hands-on resolution.
  • Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all critical assets and infrastructure to drastically minimize downtime and extend operational lifespan.
  • Manage the complete inventory lifecycle of spare parts, specialized tools, and essential supplies, ensuring optimal stock levels through strategic forecasting and overseeing the procurement process.
  • Conduct regular, impactful training sessions and practical workshops for the technical team to keep them proficient with new technologies, evolving procedures, and critical safety protocols.
  • Perform rigorous quality assurance checks and audits on completed work orders to guarantee that all repairs, installations, and maintenance activities meet stringent organizational standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with department heads and key business stakeholders to deeply understand their technical requirements, plan for future capital projects, and provide expert consultation on equipment upgrades.
  • Create, maintain, and rigorously enforce all health and safety policies within the technical department, championing a culture of safety and ensuring full compliance with regulations like OSHA and LOTO.
  • Prepare and actively manage the departmental budget for all technical operations, including labor, parts, and external contractor costs, while proactively identifying opportunities for significant cost savings.
  • Generate detailed technical reports, key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards, and equipment status updates for senior management to provide clear visibility into departmental effectiveness and ROI.
  • Oversee the end-to-end installation, configuration, and commissioning of new machinery, IT hardware, or facility systems, ensuring complex projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive and accessible library of technical documentation, including system schematics, as-built drawings, user manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Skillfully liaise with and manage third-party vendors and service contractors, meticulously overseeing their work on-site and ensuring they adhere to contractual agreements and safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the technical team by systematically evaluating existing workflows, identifying operational bottlenecks, and implementing more effective, streamlined processes.
  • Respond decisively to emergency call-outs and critical system failures, taking command of the situation to coordinate a swift, effective, and well-communicated response.
  • Expertly utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or other service desk platforms to track work orders, manage asset data, and analyze maintenance history for trends.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures or systemic problems to develop and implement robust, long-term corrective actions that prevent reoccurrence.
  • Play a key role in technical project planning and execution, contributing from initial scope definition and resource allocation through to final user acceptance testing and operational handover.
  • Evaluate team member performance through regular one-on-ones and formal reviews, setting clear, ambitious goals and providing the coaching and support needed for individual and team success.
  • Ensure all diagnostic tools, calibration instruments, and testing equipment are properly maintained, tracked, and utilized correctly by the entire technical team.
