Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive initial consultations and health risk assessments to understand clients' medical history, lifestyle habits, fitness levels, and personal wellness goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor highly personalized and evidence-based health and fitness programs that encompass exercise, nutrition, stress management, and behavior modification.
  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching sessions, delivering expert guidance on safe exercise techniques, proper form, and effective workout strategies to prevent injury and maximize results.
  • Educate clients on fundamental principles of nutrition, mindful eating, and hydration, helping them make informed food choices that align with their health objectives.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and active listening skills to build strong rapport, foster trust, and help clients overcome barriers to change.
  • Track, measure, and analyze client progress through regular check-ins, biometric screenings, and fitness assessments, adjusting plans as needed to ensure continued improvement.
  • Design and lead engaging health-focused workshops, webinars, and group fitness classes on a variety of topics such as stress reduction, healthy cooking, or chronic disease prevention.
  • Stay current with the latest research, trends, and best practices in exercise science, nutrition, and behavioral health to provide the most effective and up-to-date guidance.
  • Demonstrate and instruct the safe and proper use of a wide range of fitness equipment, including cardiovascular machines, free weights, and resistance training tools.
  • Create and distribute educational materials, newsletters, and digital content to support client learning and engagement outside of direct coaching sessions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, such as physicians or physical therapists, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to client care, especially for those with pre-existing conditions.
  • Promote wellness programs and services within the organization or community to drive participation and build a culture of health.
  • Adapt coaching and training styles to accommodate a diverse client population with varying ages, fitness levels, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide empathetic support and accountability, celebrating client milestones and helping them navigate setbacks with a positive and resilient mindset.
  • Assess and address ergonomic and workplace wellness factors for corporate clients to reduce injury risk and improve overall employee well-being.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm to create a positive and motivating environment for all clients.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Exercise Prescription & Programming: In-depth ability to design safe, effective, and progressive fitness plans based on individual assessments.
  • Nutritional Science Knowledge: Strong understanding of macronutrients, micronutrients, and dietary principles to provide general nutrition guidance.
  • Health Assessment Techniques: Proficiency in conducting biometric screenings (e.g., blood pressure, body composition) and functional movement screens.
  • Behavior Change Methodologies: Knowledge of established models like the Transtheoretical Model and motivational interviewing to facilitate lasting lifestyle changes.
  • Relevant Certifications: Must hold and maintain a nationally accredited certification (e.g., ACE, NASM, ACSM, NBHWC).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.

Relevant Fields of Study:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3+ years of direct experience in personal training, health coaching, or a related wellness field.

Preferred: Prior experience in a corporate wellness, clinical, or community health setting is highly desirable. Experience working with diverse populations and individuals with chronic conditions is a significant asset.
