Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform comprehensive diagnostics, service, and repairs on a wide range of residential and commercial heating equipment, including furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and ductless mini-split systems.
Execute preventative maintenance and precision tune-ups on heating systems to ensure they operate at peak efficiency, extend their lifespan, and prevent future breakdowns.
Install new heating systems, components, and associated ductwork and piping, ensuring all work is completed according to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and local building codes.
Accurately diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and control system failures using advanced diagnostic tools such as multimeters, combustion analyzers, and pressure gauges.
Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and after-hours service requests, working efficiently to restore heat and ensure client safety.
Perform skilled brazing, soldering, and pipe fitting for system installations and repairs, ensuring leak-free and durable connections.
Test and balance systems post-installation or repair to verify proper operation and airflow, making necessary adjustments for optimal performance.
Read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals to effectively troubleshoot and install modern heating systems.
Provide clients with clear, detailed explanations of diagnostic findings, repair options, and associated costs, empowering them to make informed decisions.
Ensure all work is performed in strict adherence to safety protocols, including proper handling of tools, electrical components, and hazardous materials.
Commission newly installed equipment by conducting a full range of start-up tests and operational checks to validate performance.
Maintain a deep, up-to-date knowledge of various manufacturers' products, including gas, oil, electric, and geothermal heating technologies.
Utilize company-provided mobile software to accurately document all services performed, parts used, and time on site for precise record-keeping and billing.

Secondary Functions

Educate customers on the proper use of their heating systems, thermostats, and provide tips for energy efficiency and system care.
Proactively identify opportunities for system upgrades, enhancements, or service agreements that would benefit the customer.
Manage and maintain the inventory of parts, tools, and equipment on a company-provided service vehicle to ensure readiness for any job.
Keep the assigned service vehicle clean, organized, and in good working condition, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
Collaborate effectively with dispatchers, support staff, and other technicians to ensure a smooth workflow and excellent customer experience.
Participate actively in ongoing company-paid training and certification programs to stay current with the latest industry technologies and best practices.
Provide mentorship and on-the-job guidance to junior technicians or apprentices as needed.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Advanced Troubleshooting: Proven ability to systematically and accurately diagnose faults in complex heating systems, including electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant circuits.
System Installation: Proficiency in installing furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps according to code and manufacturer guidelines.
Diagnostic Tool Proficiency: Expertise in using multimeters, combustion analyzers, manifold gauge sets, and other HVAC diagnostic tools.
Brazing and Soldering: High level of skill in brazing and soldering refrigerant lines and plumbing to create strong, leak-proof joints.
-Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: Ability to read and understand complex technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
Certifications: EPA 608 Universal Certification is required. NATE, CETP, or other relevant industry certifications are highly preferred.
Code Compliance: Strong knowledge of local and national mechanical, electrical, and gas codes.
