Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the precise installation of a diverse range of engineered fall protection systems, including horizontal and vertical lifelines, rigid rail systems, single-point anchors, and guardrails, following engineering drawings and manufacturer guidelines to the letter.
- Conduct comprehensive annual and post-incident inspections of previously installed fall arrest and fall restraint systems to ensure their ongoing integrity and compliance with OSHA and ANSI standards.
- Perform on-site load testing and non-destructive evaluations of anchor points and system components using specialized calibrated equipment to verify their structural capacity.
- Meticulously document all installation, inspection, and testing activities, generating detailed reports with photographic evidence, findings, and clear recommendations for clients.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, structural drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate system layout and installation.
- Conduct thorough on-site hazard analyses and pre-work safety assessments before commencing any work at heights, identifying potential risks and establishing robust control measures.
- Perform necessary repairs, retrofits, and component replacements on existing height safety systems to bring them back into a state of compliance and full functionality.
- Certify newly installed and re-inspected systems, officially signing off on their compliance and fitness for use.
- Interface directly with clients, site supervisors, and structural engineers on-site to resolve installation challenges, clarify specifications, and ensure project milestones are met.
- Manage and maintain all company-issued tools, safety gear, and testing equipment, ensuring everything is in safe, calibrated, and working order.
- Provide expert guidance and recommendations to clients regarding their fall protection needs, suggesting appropriate systems and solutions based on site-specific conditions.
- Adhere to and champion all company and client-specific safety protocols, acting as a safety leader on every job site.
- Conduct pre-use and periodic formal inspections of personal fall protection equipment (PPE), including harnesses, lanyards, and self-retracting lifelines, for clients and internal teams.
- Develop and document site-specific work procedures and rescue plans tailored to the unique challenges of each project location.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with malfunctioning or non-compliant fall protection systems, identifying root causes and formulating effective corrective action plans.
- Stay current with evolving industry best practices, new product innovations, and changes in federal, state, and provincial fall protection regulations (e.g., OSHA 1910 & 1926, ANSI Z359).
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the training and mentorship of junior technicians and apprentices, sharing knowledge and ensuring high standards of workmanship and safety.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Fall Protection System Installation: Deep, hands-on knowledge of installing various systems (lifelines, anchor points, guardrails) from leading manufacturers.
- Inspection & Certification: Proficiency in conducting annual inspections and certifications according to ANSI Z359 and manufacturer requirements.
- Load Testing: Experience using hydraulic and static load testing equipment to verify anchor strength.
- Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: Ability to read and execute work based on detailed engineering and architectural drawings.
