Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Operate a variety of heavy machinery, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, and motor graders, for roadway construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
Perform critical snow and ice removal operations during winter months, including plowing designated routes and spreading de-icing materials to ensure roadways remain safe for public travel.

Haul various construction and maintenance materials, such as gravel, sand, asphalt, and fill dirt, to and from job sites using heavy-duty commercial trucks.
Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections, as well as preventative maintenance and minor repairs on assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Repair and maintain roadway shoulders by grading, adding necessary material, and ensuring proper slope and compaction for vehicle safety.
Assist in the installation, removal, and painting of pavement markings, such as lane lines, crosswalks, and symbols, using specialized line striping equipment.
Remove debris, litter, fallen trees, and other obstructions from highways and adjacent areas to maintain a safe, clean, and passable environment for motorists.
Perform concrete work, including the forming, pouring, and finishing of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and small structural pads as needed for infrastructure projects.
Operate a range of power tools, such as jackhammers, chainsaws, compactors, and concrete saws, in a safe and effective manner to complete assigned tasks.
Meticulously document daily work activities, including labor hours, materials used, and equipment operating time, on daily work reports for accurate record-keeping.

Collaborate effectively with a diverse team of maintenance workers, equipment operators, and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and to a high standard of quality.
Inspect bridges and overpasses for structural issues, deck deterioration, debris buildup, and necessary repairs as part of a comprehensive infrastructure maintenance program.
Provide logistical support for special events by setting up traffic control patterns, deploying barricades, and installing temporary signage as directed by supervisors.
Repair and maintain fences along the highway right-of-way to secure the area, control access, and ensure the safety of both the public and wildlife.

Secondary Functions

Perform basic maintenance, cleanup, and janitorial duties for maintenance yards, salt storage sheds, and office facilities to ensure an orderly work environment.
Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of tools, supplies, and materials, and report needs to the crew supervisor to prevent work delays.
Complete all required safety training, certification courses, and license renewals in a timely and proactive manner.

Required Skills & Competencies
