function on all circuits using multimeters and circuit testers. - Install and configure electronic brake controllers, proportional and time-
based units, including in-dash and under-dash mounting, dash wiring, and
system calibration for safe trailer braking performance. - Diagnose vehicle fitment challenges and resolve clearance, frame, exhaust,
and bumper interference issues by recommending approved modifications or
alternate products while maintaining structural and warranty integrity. - Perform mechanical and electrical repairs on towing systems, including
welding, bracket fabrication, drilling, tapping, and structural reinforcement
when required and permitted by manufacturer guidance and shop policy. - Inspect, test, and certify towing installations through documented
quality-check procedures, road tests, and customer signoff; log measurements,
torque values, and photos for service records and warranty claims. - Read and interpret vehicle service manuals, hitch manufacturer instructions,
harness schematics, and torque specifications to ensure correct installation
and compliance with safety standards and best practices. - Use professional-grade hand tools, impact wrenches, drill presses, torque
wrenches, lifts, creepers and hoists safely and maintain them according to
shop maintenance schedules and OSHA guidelines. - Provide clear, professional on-site or in-shop customer service: explain
installation steps, demonstrate hitch operation, provide towing safety tips,
and answer product and warranty questions in plain language. - Convert service opportunities into sales by recommending compatible towing
accessories—ball mounts, wiring upgrades, brake systems, safety chains,
and anti-sway devices—while maintaining a customer-first approach and
documented consent. - Complete job documentation, digital service orders, and electronic checklists
accurately and in a timely manner using the shop’s POS / CRM / job-management
system for billing, inventory and warranty capture. - Maintain clean, organized work areas, manage inventory for parts and fasteners,
and ensure manufacturer-approved parts are used; proactively report low-stock
items and offer input on reorder levels. - Respond to mobile service calls when required for on-site hitch installations,
roadside towing hookups, or fleet service visits; manage time and logistics to
complete installations efficiently in the field. - Keep up to date with new hitch products, vehicle fitment changes, and
electrified vehicle (hybrid/EV) considerations for towing and electrical
isolation to prevent charging or CAN-bus issues. - Collaborate with sales and service advisors to scope jobs accurately,
estimate labor and parts, and provide lead times for custom or out-of-stock
components. - Troubleshoot wiring and electronic issues using diagnostic tools, identify
CAN-bus conflicts, parasitic draws, or fault codes, and coordinate with OEM
technical support for complex vehicle electronics. - Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements,
ensuring safe operation of lifts, grinders, welding equipment and electrical
tools; conduct post-job safety checks for both vehicle and trailer. - Complete warranty repair orders, process manufacturer claim forms, and
provide required photographic and measurement evidence to maximize warranty
recoveries and minimize chargebacks. - Mentor and train junior technicians and apprentices on proper installation
techniques, torque standards, wiring best practices and customer service
expectations to maintain consistent service quality. - Participate in continuous improvement initiatives: suggest shop workflow
changes, tooling upgrades, and parts kit standardization to reduce install
time and improve first-time-fit rates.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
- Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
- Assist with periodic inventory audits, tagging expensive components, and rotating
stock to reduce obsolescence and warranty risk. - Coordinate with shipping/receiving to inspect incoming hitch shipments for
completeness and report discrepancies to procurement for timely resolution. - Provide feedback to product sourcing and purchasing teams on fitment issues,
recurring part failures or supplier quality concerns to improve downstream
customer satisfaction. - Attend manufacturer technical trainings, certifications and vendor product
demonstrations to maintain or expand installation authorizations and
credentials. - Prepare simple estimates for retrofit or custom installations and escalate
complex scope changes to the service manager prior to work authorization. - Assist the service scheduler during peak periods by confirming vehicle
compatibility questions and preparing vehicles for drop-off to reduce cycle
time.
