Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately position, align, and fit hood panels and associated components, such as latches, hinges, and insulation, according to detailed work instructions and engineering blueprints.
  • Utilize a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electric power tools, including torque wrenches, impact guns, and riveting tools, to securely fasten parts and components to specification.
  • Perform meticulous visual inspections of all assembled parts and surfaces to identify and report any defects, scratches, dents, or misalignments, ensuring adherence to Class-A surface standards.
  • Apply sealants, adhesives, and sound-dampening materials to hood assemblies, ensuring proper coverage and curing to prevent water leaks and reduce cabin noise.
  • Follow standardized work processes and assembly sequences precisely to guarantee consistency, quality, and efficiency across all units produced.
  • Operate and monitor automated assembly equipment and robotic systems, intervening as necessary to correct errors or perform manual adjustments.
  • Read and interpret complex technical documents, including assembly diagrams, blueprints, and process sheets, to understand component orientation and assembly requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, line leads, and quality assurance personnel to troubleshoot assembly issues and implement corrective actions in real-time.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, practicing 5S methodologies to promote safety, efficiency, and a professional manufacturing environment.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe and optimal working condition, reporting any malfunctions for repair.
  • Handle and transport raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies to and from the workstation, using carts or other material handling equipment as required.
  • Document production and quality control data accurately, using manual logs or digital Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to track progress and part traceability.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback and suggestions to enhance production processes, improve safety, and reduce waste.
  • Adjust and calibrate hood alignment to the vehicle body, ensuring precise gap and flushness specifications are met for a perfect final fit and finish.
  • Rotate through various tasks and stations within the hood assembly line as required by production schedules to support team flexibility and cross-training objectives.
  • Install and connect under-hood components such as washer fluid lines, lighting harnesses, and prop rods, verifying functionality post-installation.
  • Identify and tag non-conforming parts or assemblies for rework or scrap, clearly communicating the nature of the defect to the appropriate department.
  • Meet established production targets and cycle times without compromising the high standards of quality and safety integral to our brand.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new team members, demonstrating proper assembly techniques and reinforcing safety and quality procedures.
  • Conduct first-piece and last-piece inspections to validate setup and process stability at the beginning and end of each production run.
  • Manage the inventory of fasteners, clips, and small components at the workstation, signaling for replenishment to avoid line stoppages.

Secondary Functions

  • Support rework and repair tasks on off-line vehicles as directed by supervisors.
  • Contribute to the organization's lean manufacturing and waste reduction goals.
  • Assist the maintenance team in diagnosing and resolving minor equipment issues.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and safety briefings to stay informed on production updates and policies.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency with Hand and Power Tools (e.g., torque wrenches, impact drivers, rivet guns)

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years in a manufacturing or assembly environment.

Preferred: 2+ years of experience specifically in automotive assembly, with a strong preference for body panel or "Class A" surface experience.
