Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely operate a heavy-duty hook loader truck to transport, place, and retrieve large containers, bins, and flatbeds for waste, recycling, scrap metal, or construction debris.
- Perform comprehensive daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in strict accordance with DOT regulations and company policy, documenting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Expertly maneuver the truck in tight and congested areas, including urban environments, active construction sites, and industrial facilities, demonstrating superior spatial awareness.
- Operate the hydraulic hook lift mechanism with precision to safely load and unload containers of various sizes and weights, ensuring proper alignment and secure connection.
- Secure all loads properly using chains, straps, tarps, and other necessary equipment to prevent shifting or spillage during transit, ensuring public and site safety.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS, dispatch instructions, and personal knowledge, making real-time adjustments for traffic, weather, and construction delays.
- Maintain constant and professional communication with the dispatch team, providing updates on job status, delays, and completion of assignments.
- Interact courteously and professionally with customers and site personnel to coordinate container drop-offs, pick-ups, and placement, providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic logs (ELD) or paper logs of driving hours, duty status, mileage, and fuel consumption to ensure full DOT compliance.
- Complete all required job-related paperwork and digital forms, including work orders, vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs), and transport manifests, with accuracy and legibility.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and local and federal traffic laws to maintain an exceptional safety record.
- Conduct visual inspections of containers for damage, hazards, or overloading before transport, reporting any issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Transport all materials to designated disposal facilities, transfer stations, recycling centers, or landfills, following all site-specific procedures upon arrival.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions, mechanical failures, or safety concerns to the maintenance department immediately to facilitate prompt repairs.
- Assess ground conditions at customer sites to ensure the surface is stable and safe for loading, unloading, and placement of heavy containers.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the truck's cab and exterior, projecting a professional company image and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Effectively manage your time and workload to complete all assigned routes and tasks within the scheduled workday, prioritizing jobs as directed.
