Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely transport, deliver, and professionally set up durable medical equipment (DME), such as hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, and wheelchairs, within patients' homes, ensuring all items are functional and placed for optimal patient access and safety.
  • Provide clear, patient, and compassionate instruction to patients, family members, and caregivers on the proper and safe operation, use, and basic maintenance of all delivered medical equipment.
  • Execute the timely pickup of discontinued or contaminated medical equipment from patient residences, adhering strictly to established infection control policies and decontamination protocols.
  • Maintain and manage a detailed and accurate daily delivery and pickup schedule, optimizing routes for efficiency to meet urgent patient needs and scheduled appointments.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on the assigned company vehicle, including checking fluid levels, tires, and lights, to ensure it remains in safe and reliable operating condition.
  • Meticulously manage and maintain an accurate inventory of medical supplies and equipment loaded onto the vehicle and assist with inventory control within the central warehouse.
  • Diligently complete all required documentation, including delivery tickets, patient/caregiver signature verifications, and electronic vehicle logs, with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the interdisciplinary clinical team, dispatchers, and leadership regarding delivery status, potential delays, or any issues encountered in the field.
  • Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, state and local traffic laws, and company policies regarding safe driving, vehicle operation, and accident reporting.
  • Respond to on-call, after-hours, and weekend emergency delivery or pickup requests as part of a rotational schedule to ensure continuous, 24/7 patient support.
  • Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and perform functional checks on all returned medical equipment according to established infection control procedures and manufacturer guidelines to prepare it for future patient use.
  • Safely load and unload medical equipment and supplies, which are often heavy and bulky, utilizing proper lifting techniques, dollies, and other safety equipment to prevent personal injury and equipment damage.
  • Exhibit profound empathy, respect, and professionalism during all interactions with patients and their families, who are often navigating sensitive and emotional end-of-life situations.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions in the patient's home, providing immediate support and escalating complex technical problems to a biomedical technician or clinical supervisor as appropriate.
  • Manage the safe handling, storage, and transportation of oxygen cylinders and other potentially hazardous materials in full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.

  • Assist in the organization, stocking, and general maintenance of the warehouse, ensuring equipment is stored safely, is easily accessible, and the environment is clean and orderly.
