Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive cleaning and sanitization of patient rooms, nursing stations, waiting areas, and public restrooms according to established hospital procedures and infection control guidelines.
- Execute terminal cleaning protocols in discharged patient rooms, including high-level disinfection of all surfaces, to prepare the room for the next admission.
- Safely handle, transport, and dispose of various waste streams, including general trash, recycled materials, and regulated medical waste such as biohazards and sharps, in compliance with OSHA and hospital policies.
- Operate and maintain a variety of powered and manual cleaning equipment, such as commercial vacuums, floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, and carpet extractors, ensuring they are clean and in proper working order.
- Diligently clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the facility, including doorknobs, light switches, handrails, and elevator buttons, to minimize the spread of pathogens.
- Restock essential supplies in patient rooms and restrooms, including hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring availability for patients and staff.
- Respond promptly to housekeeping pages and service requests, addressing spills, accidents, and other urgent cleaning needs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Follow specific isolation and decontamination procedures for rooms of patients with infectious diseases (e.g., C. diff, MRSA), utilizing appropriate PPE and specialized cleaning agents as directed.
- Perform periodic project-based cleaning tasks, such as stripping and waxing floors, shampooing carpets, washing walls and ceilings, and cleaning interior windows.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy by adhering to all HIPAA regulations and hospital policies during interactions and while working in patient care areas.
- Interact with patients, families, and clinical staff in a courteous, professional, and compassionate manner, contributing to a positive patient experience.
- Maintain accurate logs and checklists to document completed cleaning tasks, supply usage, and any maintenance issues identified.
- Collect and transport soiled linen from patient care areas to designated collection points for laundering, following protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
- Ensure all cleaning chemical storage areas are kept clean, organized, and secure, and properly mix and dilute chemicals according to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions.
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned areas to ensure they meet the hospital's standards for cleanliness, safety, and appearance, proactively addressing any deficiencies.

- Report any observed safety hazards, damaged furniture, or necessary repairs to the maintenance department or a supervisor through the proper channels.
