Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct regular and random foot and vehicle patrols of the entire hospital campus, including interior and exterior areas, parking structures, and off-site clinics, to deter criminal activity and ensure a visible security presence.
  • Monitor and control access to sensitive areas of the hospital, such as the emergency department, pharmacy, and maternity wards, verifying credentials and issuing visitor passes in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all emergency codes (e.g., Code Silver for a weapon, Code Grey for a combative person, Code Red for fire), taking a lead role in de-escalation and containment.
  • Utilize advanced verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to manage agitated, confused, or aggressive patients, visitors, and staff, prioritizing a calm and therapeutic resolution.
  • Write detailed, accurate, and impartial incident reports, daily activity logs, and witness statements using computer-based reporting software, ensuring all events are documented for legal and administrative review.
  • Proactively monitor CCTV systems and alarm panels, identifying suspicious activities, potential safety hazards, or policy violations and dispatching officers or notifying appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Provide safety escorts for patients, visitors, and staff to and from their vehicles or other locations on campus, particularly during late-night or early-morning hours, to enhance their personal security.
  • Enforce hospital parking regulations in a fair and consistent manner, issuing citations, arranging for tows when necessary, and assisting visitors and staff with vehicle-related issues like jump-starts or lock-outs.

  • Secure and document patient valuables and lost and found items according to strict hospital protocol to prevent loss or theft and ensure proper return to the owner.
  • Serve as a frontline ambassador for the hospital, providing directions, information, and assistance to patients and visitors with a professional, compassionate, and customer-focused demeanor.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid State Security Officer License/Guard Card where required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Homeland Security
  • Sociology or Psychology

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.

Preferred: Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital security setting is highly desirable. Experience working with the public in a customer-service capacity is a strong asset.
