Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meal & Hydration Support: Distribute meal trays to residents, ensuring accuracy with dietary cards, and provide assistance with opening containers, cutting food, and setting up the eating area to promote independent dining.
  • Resident Room Upkeep: Perform daily tidying of resident rooms, including making beds with fresh linens, organizing personal belongings, and ensuring the space is clean, safe, and comfortable.
  • Transportation & Escorting: Safely transport residents via wheelchair or by escorting them to and from dining rooms, activity areas, therapy appointments, and social events within the facility.
  • Answering Call Lights: Respond promptly and courteously to resident call lights, assess their non-clinical needs, and either fulfill the request directly or promptly relay it to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Hydration & Nutrition Rounds: Regularly pass fresh water, ice, and nutritional supplements to residents throughout the day, documenting intake as required by facility protocols.
  • Companionship & Socialization: Engage residents in friendly conversation, read to them, and provide one-on-one companionship to alleviate loneliness and promote a positive social environment.
  • Assistance with Admissions & Discharges: Welcome new residents by helping them unpack and settle into their rooms, and assist discharging residents by carefully packing their personal belongings.
  • Supply Management: Routinely check and restock resident rooms and care areas with essential supplies such as gloves, linens, towels, personal hygiene products, and drinking cups.
  • Observational Reporting: Observe residents' general condition, mood, and behavior, and immediately report any significant changes, concerns, or unusual occurrences to the Charge Nurse or clinical team.
  • Enhancing the Environment: Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of common areas, including lounges, dining rooms, and hallways, ensuring they are welcoming and free of hazards.
  • Personal Item Delivery: Sort and deliver mail, newspapers, flowers, and other personal items directly to residents, offering a moment of positive interaction.
  • Support for Activities: Assist the Activities Department with setting up for events, encouraging resident participation, and helping with cleanup afterward to foster a vibrant community life.
  • Responding to Family Inquiries: Greet family members and visitors with a professional and friendly demeanor, answering non-clinical questions and directing them to the appropriate staff for clinical information.

  • Personal Laundry Services: Collect, launder, fold, and return residents' personal clothing, ensuring items are handled with care and returned to the correct individual.
  • Documentation: Accurately document completed tasks, such as water distribution, linen changes, or resident transport, in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and sanitize shared equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, and shower chairs after use to support infection control standards.
