Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute the complete setup and calibration of hot press machinery according to detailed work orders, ensuring correct temperature, pressure, and timing parameters are programmed for each specific job.
Operate multi-platen or single-opening hot presses to bond, cure, or form materials such as wood panels, laminates, composites, or rubber.
Skillfully load raw materials, which may include veneers, resin-coated papers, fiberglass layers, or pre-pregs, into the press, ensuring proper alignment and orientation.
Unload finished or semi-finished panels and components from the press upon cycle completion, using manual or assisted lifting devices, and stack them for cooling or further processing.
Continuously monitor machine operations, including gauges, dials, and control panels, to verify that processing conditions remain within specified tolerances throughout the cycle.
Conduct first-piece and in-process quality inspections on products to check for delamination, blisters, surface defects, and correct thickness, using tools like calipers and micrometers.
Interpret complex blueprints, production schedules, and manufacturing specifications to determine the correct procedure, materials, and machine settings for each production run.
Make precise adjustments to machine settings, such as platen temperature, hydraulic pressure, and cure time, to correct any deviations from quality standards.
Systematically troubleshoot and resolve common operational issues, such as uneven pressure, temperature fluctuations, or material feeding problems, to minimize downtime.
Handle and prepare various adhesives, resins, and bonding agents, ensuring correct mixture and application according to product specifications.
Maintain an accurate and detailed log of production data, including cycle times, material usage, scrap rates, and completed quantities for inventory and reporting purposes.
Ensure proper sequencing and handling of cauls, plates, and release sheets to prevent product damage and ensure efficient press loading and unloading.

Secondary Functions

Perform routine preventative maintenance on the hot press, including lubricating moving parts, checking hydraulic fluid levels, and cleaning platens and machine surfaces.
Collaborate with the maintenance department to diagnose and report major mechanical or electrical malfunctions requiring specialized repair.
