Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately interpret and work from complex blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications to determine press setup, materials, and operational sequences.
- Set up, operate, and meticulously monitor multi-platen or single-opening hot press machines to mold, form, or laminate materials such as composites, wood, rubber, or plastic.
- Precisely adjust and control critical machine parameters, including temperature, pressure, and cycle times, to ensure products meet stringent quality standards.
- Prepare and install molds, dies, and tooling into the press, ensuring correct alignment and secure fastening before beginning a production run.
- Carefully load raw materials into the press and safely unload finished, often hot, parts upon completion of the cycle, using appropriate handling equipment.
- Conduct first-piece and in-process quality inspections on parts using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
- Visually inspect finished products for defects such as delamination, surface imperfections, warpage, or voids, and take corrective action as necessary.
- Perform routine operator-level preventative maintenance, including lubricating moving parts, cleaning platens and molds, and checking fluid levels to ensure machine longevity and performance.
- Troubleshoot common equipment malfunctions and process deviations, making necessary adjustments to resolve issues and minimize production downtime.
- Complete and maintain accurate production and quality control documentation, including logs, travelers, and inspection reports, ensuring data integrity.
- Trim, deflash, and perform other secondary finishing operations on molded parts to prepare them for the next stage of production or final assembly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safe material handling.
- Monitor the supply of raw materials at the workstation and coordinate with material handlers to ensure a continuous flow of production.
- Weigh, measure, and sometimes mix raw materials or adhesive compounds according to specific formulas or recipes outlined in the production order.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles to promote efficiency and prevent accidents.
Secondary Functions
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department to identify the root cause of defects and participate in implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide valuable feedback to engineering and process improvement teams on manufacturability, cycle time optimization, and tooling design.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of junior operators or new team members on standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives, kaizen events, and team meetings to enhance productivity, quality, and safety within the department.
- Support maintenance technicians during more complex repairs or preventative maintenance schedules by providing operational insights and assistance.

- Machine Operation & Setup: Demonstrated proficiency in setting up and operating hydraulic or electric hot press and compression molding equipment.
