Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Skillfully operate the main pulpit controls and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for the hot rolling mill, managing speeds, pressures, and temperatures to shape steel according to product specifications.
Continuously monitor a complex array of gauges, computer screens, and video monitors to ensure all operational parameters of the roughing and finishing stands remain within tolerance.
Manipulate and guide heated steel slabs through the mill stands, making real-time adjustments to prevent defects and ensure dimensional accuracy.
Operate high-capacity overhead cranes and other heavy mobile equipment to safely and efficiently transport raw steel slabs, work-in-progress materials, and finished coils.
Conduct precise quality control checks on finished products using measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, and profile gauges to verify thickness, width, and surface quality.
Proactively identify and troubleshoot operational problems and equipment malfunctions, taking immediate corrective action to minimize downtime and production loss.
Execute product size changes by assisting with the setup, alignment, and changing of mill rolls, guides, and other critical components, often working in physically demanding conditions.
Manage the operation of the reheat furnace, ensuring steel slabs are heated uniformly to the precise temperatures required for optimal rolling.
Oversee the high-pressure water descaling system to effectively remove scale from the steel surface prior to its entry into the rolling stands.
Securely band, weigh, and tag finished steel coils or plates, ensuring accurate identification and proper recording for inventory and shipping purposes.
Maintain constant, clear communication with fellow crew members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel using two-way radios and established hand signals in a loud industrial environment.
Adhere with absolute diligence to all company safety protocols and procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), confined space entry, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

Secondary Functions

Perform routine operator-level maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of equipment to ensure its reliability and longevity.
Assist the dedicated maintenance team during scheduled preventative maintenance shutdowns and unplanned equipment breakdowns.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Heavy Machinery Operation: Proven ability to operate complex industrial machinery, preferably with experience in a steel mill or similar heavy manufacturing setting (e.g., pulpits, control panels, HMI).
