Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute expert surface preparation, including scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming to ensure a smooth and durable foundation for all finishes.
  • Meticulously protect all client property, including furniture, flooring, and fixtures, by using drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and high-quality painter's tape.
  • Skillfully apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces, equipment, and fixtures of buildings.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain a variety of painting equipment, including airless sprayers, brushes, rollers, and power washers.
  • Precisely mix and match paints and stains to achieve the exact color and consistency specified by the client or project plan.
  • Perform high-quality, detailed trim and edge work, creating clean, sharp lines around windows, doors, and baseboards.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and project specifications to determine the quantity and type of materials needed.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment safely and in compliance with all OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of surfaces to identify and correct any imperfections prior to and during the painting process.
  • Apply a diverse range of finishes and textures, from matte and eggshell to high-gloss and specialty coatings, based on project requirements.
  • Manage paint and material inventory for assigned jobs, calculating needs accurately to minimize waste and ensure project continuity.
  • Work confidently on a variety of surfaces such as wood, drywall, plaster, metal, and concrete, adapting techniques for optimal results.

Secondary Functions

  • Conduct final walkthroughs with clients or site supervisors to ensure every detail meets their satisfaction and secure project sign-off.
  • Collaborate effectively with other trade professionals, including carpenters, electricians, and project managers, to coordinate work schedules and ensure a smooth project flow.
  • Provide expert advice to clients on color selection, paint types, and finishes that best suit their space and durability needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, removing debris and properly storing tools and materials daily.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee the work of apprentice painters, sharing best practices in technique, safety, and professionalism.
  • Accurately document daily work progress, report any unforeseen issues or delays, and maintain records of time and materials used.
  • Perform minor drywall, plaster, and wood repairs to ensure surfaces are in optimal condition before painting begins.
  • Strip old paint, wallpaper, and other obsolete finishes using appropriate methods, including heat guns, chemical strippers, and sanding equipment.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-5+ years of documented professional experience in residential and/or commercial painting.

Preferred:

  • Experience as a lead painter or foreman, with a proven ability to guide a small crew. A portfolio showcasing a range of completed interior and exterior projects is highly advantageous.
