Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely pilot and navigate the houseboat in various weather conditions and waterway complexities, adhering to all maritime laws and company routes.
- Assume ultimate command and responsibility for the vessel, crew, and all passengers on board, making critical decisions to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Conduct thorough pre-departure and post-voyage inspections of the vessel's hull, mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure operational readiness.
- Deliver comprehensive and engaging safety briefings to all guests, clearly explaining emergency procedures, safety equipment usage, and vessel rules.
- Expertly perform docking, mooring, and anchoring maneuvers, often in tight quarters and changing currents, ensuring the security of the vessel.
- Act as the primary responder in any emergency situation, including medical incidents, fire, or man-overboard scenarios, executing established emergency protocols.
- Manage and maintain all critical onboard systems, including engines, generators, plumbing, HVAC, and navigation electronics, performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintain constant vigilance and a proper lookout for navigational hazards, other vessel traffic, and changing environmental conditions.
- Provide exceptional, high-touch customer service, acting as a concierge to anticipate and fulfill guest needs, from activity suggestions to special requests.
- Oversee all aspects of the guest experience, ensuring comfort, enjoyment, and a welcoming atmosphere throughout the charter.
- Manage fuel, water, and waste management procedures, ensuring environmental compliance and sufficient resources for the planned voyage.
- Maintain accurate and detailed official vessel logs, including navigation, engine hours, maintenance, and incident reports as required by regulations and company policy.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- USCG Captain's License: A valid U.S. Coast Guard License is mandatory, typically an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) or a Master license of appropriate tonnage.
- Vessel Handling & Navigation: Demonstrated expertise in maneuvering vessels of similar size and type, including proficiency with modern electronic navigation systems (GPS, Radar, Chartplotters).
- Marine Mechanical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of diesel/gasoline engines, generators, marine plumbing, and 12V/120V electrical systems for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
- First Aid & CPR/AED Certification: Current and valid certifications are required to act as a first responder.
