Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Travel to customer residences in a company-provided service vehicle to perform on-site diagnosis and repair of a diverse range of major household appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, and cooktops.
  • Conduct thorough diagnostic assessments using specialized tools such as multimeters, manometers, and other testing equipment to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, or electronic failures.
  • Skillfully disassemble and reassemble complex appliance units to access, repair, or replace faulty components like motors, pumps, heating elements, control boards, and compressors.
  • Interpret and apply technical information from service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer schematics to guide troubleshooting and ensure precise repairs.
  • Clearly and professionally communicate diagnostic findings, proposed solutions, and transparent cost estimates for parts and labor directly to the customer.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by educating homeowners on proper appliance operation, preventive maintenance, and tips to extend the life of their equipment.
  • Manage and maintain a well-organized inventory of parts and supplies on the service vehicle to maximize the rate of first-call completions.
  • Execute sealed system repairs, including refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, and precise recharging, while strictly adhering to EPA Section 608 regulations.
  • Utilize a mobile device or tablet to accurately process work orders, document service details, manage billing information, and communicate job status in real-time.
  • Maintain constant communication with the dispatch team and service managers regarding job progress, potential delays, required parts, and any on-site challenges.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and cleanliness within the customer's home, ensuring floors and work areas are protected during service.
  • Order necessary, non-stock parts from approved vendors, track delivery status, and efficiently schedule follow-up appointments to finalize repairs.
  • Stay current with emerging appliance technologies, smart features, and evolving repair techniques through ongoing training, certifications, and independent study.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to electronic control systems, user interfaces, and network connectivity on modern "smart" appliances.
  • Safely lift, maneuver, and position heavy appliances as required, using proper lifting techniques and equipment to prevent injury or property damage.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to offer value-added services or service agreements that align with the customer's needs and enhance their experience.
  • Accurately document all service activities, including parts used, labor time, and customer interactions, for precise record-keeping and performance tracking.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols, policies, and industry regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and the customer.
  • Perform installations of new appliances, ensuring correct connections to water, gas, and electrical utilities and verifying full functionality before completing the job.
  • Address and resolve any customer concerns or complaints with empathy and efficiency, escalating to management when necessary to guarantee a positive outcome.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Appliance Diagnostics: Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose a wide range of mechanical and electrical issues across all major appliance categories (laundry, refrigeration, cooking, cleaning).
  • Sealed System Expertise: Proficiency in refrigeration sealed system repair, including soldering/brazing, refrigerant handling, and evacuation/charging procedures. EPA 608 Certification is essential.
  • Technical Literacy: The ability to read, understand, and apply complex technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and product schematics to guide repair strategies.
  • Tool Proficiency: Expert use of diagnostic tools, including multimeters, clamp meters, pressure gauges, and software-based diagnostic applications.
  • Gas & Electric Systems: Strong working knowledge of both gas and electrical systems, including safety protocols and connection requirements for various appliances.
