Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design and execute end-to-end, mixed-methods research studies that delve into user behavior, motivations, and needs, utilizing techniques from ethnography to large-scale surveys.
  • Lead foundational and generative research initiatives to identify new opportunities for innovation and define the strategic direction for future products and features.
  • Synthesize complex information from multiple sources—including quantitative data, qualitative interviews, academic literature, and market trends—to create a holistic and nuanced understanding of our users.
  • Translate research findings into compelling, data-driven narratives and actionable recommendations for cross-functional teams, including product, design, engineering, and marketing.
  • Develop and validate user personas, journey maps, and behavioral archetypes to foster a shared, empathetic understanding of the user across the organization.
  • Plan and conduct robust statistical analyses on large datasets (e.g., user telemetry, survey data) to identify behavioral patterns, segment users, and quantify the impact of product changes.
  • Design and implement A/B tests and other controlled experiments to evaluate hypotheses about user behavior and measure the effectiveness of interventions or new features.
  • Act as the primary research expert and thought partner for a specific product area, proactively identifying knowledge gaps and defining the research agenda to address them.
  • Champion a culture of evidence-based decision-making by mentoring colleagues on research best practices and effectively communicating the value of human-centered insights.
  • Present insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders in a clear and persuasive manner to influence business and product roadmaps.
  • Explore and integrate novel research methodologies and tools to continuously elevate the team's capabilities and the quality of insights generated.
  • Conduct in-depth qualitative interviews, focus groups, and diary studies to uncover rich, contextual stories that bring quantitative data to life.
  • Author and publish internal white papers and research reports that establish a durable and accessible body of knowledge on key user behaviors and market dynamics.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists to triangulate behavioral log data with qualitative findings, creating a more comprehensive and powerful explanatory model.
  • Drive the ethical considerations of research, ensuring participant privacy and data integrity are paramount in all research activities.

  • Mixed-Methods Research Design: Deep expertise in designing and executing a wide range of qualitative (e.g., ethnographic fieldwork, in-depth interviews, diary studies) and quantitative (e.g., large-scale surveys, quasi-experiments) research methods.
  • Statistical Analysis: Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, Python with pandas/scipy, SPSS) for descriptive and inferential statistics, including regression, clustering, and experimental analysis.
  • Survey Design & Analysis: Mastery of survey methodology, including sampling, questionnaire design, bias mitigation, and analysis of complex survey data.
