Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Assist senior technicians with the full-cycle installation of new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and mini-splits.
Help in the proper placement and securing of indoor and outdoor HVAC units, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and local codes.
Learn and perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning evaporator and condenser coils, changing air filters, and lubricating moving parts.
Support the fabrication, assembly, and installation of ductwork, insulation, and ventilation equipment.
Aid in the layout and connection of low and high-voltage electrical wiring to system components and thermostats under direct supervision.
Learn to safely handle, recover, and charge refrigerants in compliance with EPA regulations, assisting with pressure testing and leak detection procedures.
Perform basic diagnostic tests and troubleshooting on HVAC systems using appropriate tools and gauges to identify malfunctions with guidance from a lead technician.
Assist with brazing and soldering of copper piping for refrigerant lines, demonstrating a commitment to mastering this critical skill.
Prepare and maintain a clean and safe work environment on job sites, including laying down drop cloths and cleaning up debris upon project completion.
Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials from the company vehicle for each job, ensuring all necessary items are present and accounted for.
Cut, thread, and connect gas lines and other piping as directed, ensuring all connections are secure and leak-free.
Assist with the final system start-up and commissioning process, helping to verify that all components are operating correctly and efficiently.
Learn to accurately read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and installation manuals to execute work as specified.

Secondary Functions

Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers, answering basic questions, and referring complex inquiries to the lead technician.
Diligently complete required paperwork, including work orders, service tickets, and maintenance logs, with a high degree of accuracy and detail.
Actively participate in all company-provided training sessions, safety meetings, and continuing education opportunities to accelerate skill development.
Adhere strictly to all company, OSHA, and job-site safety policies and procedures to minimize risk and prevent accidents.
Proactively manage and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and tools on the service vehicle to ensure operational readiness.
Communicate effectively with the lead technician and dispatcher regarding job progress, encountered issues, and estimated completion times.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal HVAC codes and regulations as they apply to daily work.
Support the team by performing general shop duties, such as cleaning, organizing tools, and restocking materials, as needed.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Mechanical Aptitude: A natural ability to understand and work with mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
Tool Proficiency: Basic knowledge of and ability to safely operate common hand and power tools (drills, saws, wrenches, etc.).
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (50+ lbs), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces like attics and crawlspaces.
Valid Driver's License: A current, valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required for operating company vehicles.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
