Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist HVAC technicians with the installation of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  • Carry, load, and unload tools, equipment, ductwork, and HVAC components to and from job sites.
  • Support routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, lubricating motors, and checking system performance.
  • Help with diagnosing basic HVAC issues under the supervision of a licensed technician.
  • Prepare work areas by setting up ladders, scaffolding, drop cloths, and safety barriers.
  • Measure, cut, and assemble ductwork, piping, and insulation according to specifications.
  • Assist in the removal and disposal of old or damaged HVAC units and materials.
  • Handle refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and control components under direct supervision and in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Follow blueprints, work orders, and verbal instructions to support efficient job execution.
  • Maintain tools and equipment by cleaning, organizing, and ensuring proper storage.
  • Observe and adhere to all safety protocols, including OSHA guidelines and company safety policies.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts during system breakdowns or performance issues.
  • Assist with testing HVAC systems after installation or repair to ensure proper operation.
  • Communicate with technicians regarding job progress, material needs, and site conditions.
  • Help document work performed, parts used, and maintenance activities for service records.
  • Travel to multiple job sites as required, including residential homes and commercial facilities.
  • Perform basic shop duties such as organizing inventory and restocking supplies.
  • Support seasonal workload demands, including overtime during peak heating and cooling seasons.
  • Learn HVAC terminology, tools, and best practices through on-the-job training.
