Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize and create original, high-quality illustrations for a diverse range of platforms, including websites, mobile applications, social media, and print collateral.
  • Develop detailed character designs, environment concepts, and props from initial ideation and sketches through to final polished artwork.
  • Collaborate closely with creative directors, product managers, and marketing teams to understand project goals and translate strategic requirements into compelling visual solutions.
  • Produce dynamic storyboards and animatics to pre-visualize narrative sequences for video content, animations, and marketing campaigns.
  • Design and illustrate a wide array of assets for marketing materials, including key art, promotional images, and social media content that drives engagement.
  • Maintain and evolve the brand’s visual style and illustration guidelines, ensuring consistency and a high standard of quality across all visual outputs.
  • Actively participate in design critiques and review sessions, providing constructive feedback to peers and effectively iterating on your own work based on team input.
  • Manage a pipeline of multiple illustration projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Create intricate illustrations and iconography for user interfaces that enhance usability and create a delightful user experience.
  • Prepare and meticulously optimize final artwork files for various formats and production requirements, ensuring compatibility for web, mobile, and print.
  • Work with the content team to create a cohesive narrative, ensuring that illustrations and copy work together to tell a powerful story.
  • Develop visually engaging infographics and data visualizations that simplify complex information and make it easily digestible for the audience.
  • Illustrate key art and impactful visuals for major product launches and go-to-market strategies.

Secondary Functions

  • Stay ahead of the curve by researching and analyzing current and emerging trends in illustration, art, and design to keep our visual language fresh and innovative.
  • Contribute to the development of powerful pitch decks and internal presentations by creating high-impact visuals that support key business objectives.
  • Organize, tag, and maintain a comprehensive and accessible library of digital art assets, illustrations, and source files for team-wide use.
  • Provide artistic mentorship, guidance, and support to junior illustrators, interns, or other creative team members.
  • Assist the animation and motion graphics team by preparing layered artwork and character turnarounds optimized for movement.
  • Explore and experiment with new tools, software, and techniques to continuously improve workflow efficiency and the quality of creative output.
  • Collaborate with the UX research team to test the effectiveness of illustrations and icons, using feedback to refine visual communication.
  • Refine, retouch, and repurpose existing artwork to meet new project specifications, quality standards, or different media formats.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Mastery of core industry software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other digital painting tools like Procreate or Clip Studio Paint.
  • A strong, polished portfolio showcasing a high degree of creativity, technical skill, and a variety of artistic styles.
  • Expert understanding of fundamental art principles, including composition, color theory, lighting, perspective, and form.
  • Excellent drawing, sketching, and rendering abilities, with a deep understanding of human and animal anatomy.
  • Proven experience in vector illustration and the ability to create scalable, clean artwork for logos, icons, and UI elements.
  • Familiarity with preparing and exporting assets for a variety of platforms, including web, mobile, and print production.
  • Experience with 3D software (e.g., Blender, ZBrush, Cinema 4D) for concepting or rendering is a significant plus.
  • Knowledge of storyboarding, sequential art, and visual narrative techniques.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A compelling and professional portfolio demonstrating a high level of skill is paramount. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience is expected.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration, Graphic Design, or a related artistic discipline.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • Demonstrable experience in seeing projects through from initial concept to final, shipped product.
