Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Manage a high-volume caseload of employment-based and/or family-based immigration petitions from initiation to completion.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients (including foreign nationals, HR business partners, and managers), providing timely updates and clear, empathetic guidance throughout the immigration process.
- Meticulously prepare and review a wide range of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, TN, PERM, I-140, and Adjustment of Status filings.
- Draft complex legal documents, including petitioner support letters, responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs), and other correspondence with government agencies like USCIS, DOL, and DOS.
- Conduct thorough initial consultations with potential clients to assess their immigration options, eligibility, and potential challenges, and outline a clear strategy.
- Maintain an expert-level understanding of current immigration laws, regulations, and procedural changes, and effectively communicate their impact to clients and internal teams.
- Utilize specialized immigration case management software (such as INSZoom, LawLogix, or Tracker) to maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and manage client information with impeccable accuracy.
- Proactively monitor critical case deadlines and expiration dates using a sophisticated calendaring system to ensure timely filings and prevent lapses in status.
- Gather and meticulously review extensive supporting documentation from clients, ensuring all evidence is complete, accurate, and strategically presented.
- Prepare clients for visa interviews at U.S. consulates and embassies abroad, providing detailed guidance on interview procedures and potential questions.
- Perform detailed legal research on complex or unusual immigration issues using resources like AILA publications, government manuals, and legal databases.
- Communicate directly and professionally with government agencies to follow up on case statuses, resolve issues, and respond to inquiries.
- Ensure strict adherence to all ethical and professional standards, maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of all client information.
- Oversee the entire PERM labor certification process, including drafting job descriptions, managing recruitment advertising, and preparing the ETA Form 9089.
- Guide corporate clients through compliance requirements, including maintaining Public Access Files (PAFs) and responding to government audits.
- Analyze and interpret complex legal regulations to formulate strategic, effective arguments in support of immigration petitions and applications.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients, providing a high-touch, premium service experience that fosters long-term partnerships.
- Collaborate closely with attorneys to develop case strategies, address complex legal hurdles, and ensure the highest quality of work product.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior paralegals or administrative staff on immigration procedures and best practices.
- Accurately track and record billable hours and case expenses in accordance with firm or company policy.
