Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately and safely prepare and administer vaccines, including intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, to diverse patient populations in strict accordance with clinical guidelines and physician orders.
- Conduct thorough patient screening interviews to assess for contraindications and precautions before administering any vaccine, ensuring patient safety at all times.
- Provide clear, empathetic, and age-appropriate education to patients and their families regarding the vaccines being administered, including potential side effects and post-vaccination care.
- Diligently monitor patients in the post-vaccination observation area, promptly identifying and responding to any adverse reactions, and initiating emergency protocols if necessary.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential patient records by accurately documenting all administered vaccines, patient screening information, and lot numbers into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient identity and insurance information, ensuring all demographic and consent forms are completed accurately and legibly prior to service delivery.
- Practice stringent infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and aseptic technique during all clinical procedures.
- Assist clinical staff, such as Registered Nurses and Physicians, with patient flow management to minimize wait times and optimize clinic efficiency.
- Prepare individual vaccination stations at the beginning of each shift by stocking all necessary supplies, including needles, syringes, alcohol pads, bandages, and emergency medications.
- Properly handle and store multi-dose vaccine vials to maintain their integrity and temperature stability according to manufacturer and public health guidelines.
- Respond to patient inquiries in a professional and compassionate manner, de-escalating anxious situations and providing reassurance to hesitant individuals.
- Perform basic life support and CPR in the event of a medical emergency until advanced medical personnel arrive on the scene.
- Ensure all sharps and biohazardous materials are disposed of correctly in designated containers, following established safety and environmental protocols.
- Participate in pre-shift team huddles to review daily goals, specific vaccine protocols, and any updates to public health advisories or clinical procedures.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with the management of vaccine and medical supply inventory, including conducting daily counts, tracking expiration dates, and communicating restocking needs to the clinic supervisor.
- Support clinic setup and breakdown operations at mobile or temporary vaccination sites, including the arrangement of tables, chairs, signage, and clinical stations.
