Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and efficiently unload inbound shipments from trailers and containers using manual labor, pallet jacks, and certified forklift equipment.
- Verify the accuracy of incoming freight by meticulously comparing products received against purchase orders, packing lists, and Bills of Lading (BOLs).
- Utilize RF (Radio Frequency) scanning devices to accurately receive products into the Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring real-time inventory visibility.
- Conduct thorough inspections of all incoming goods for damage, defects, or discrepancies, and document any issues according to company protocol.
- Report and segregate any overages, shortages, or damaged products, and collaborate with the inventory control team to resolve exceptions promptly.
- Break down and sort mixed pallets of products onto designated staging pallets based on SKU, lot number, expiration date, or put-away location.
- Properly label and tag all inbound inventory with internal tracking information to ensure accurate product identification and traceability.
- Stage received products in designated areas of the warehouse, ensuring they are ready and accessible for the put-away team.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the receiving dock area, adhering to 5S principles and company safety standards.
- Operate dock doors, dock levelers, and other related equipment safely and effectively to facilitate the loading and unloading process.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with truck drivers and carriers to coordinate arrivals, departures, and any specific handling requirements.
- Ensure all required paperwork from drivers and for internal records is completed accurately, signed, and filed correctly.
- Palletize and shrink-wrap products securely to ensure stability and safety for movement and storage within the warehouse.
- Assist in managing the flow of traffic in the dock area, directing trucks to appropriate bays to optimize workflow and minimize congestion.
- Perform routine pre-operation safety checks on material handling equipment, such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks, reporting any maintenance needs.
- Input receiving data accurately and in a timely manner into the WMS or other designated computer systems.
- Adhere to all OSHA regulations and company-specific safety policies, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with other warehouse departments, including inventory control, put-away, and quality assurance, to ensure a seamless inbound process.
- Participate in cycle counts and physical inventory audits as required to help maintain overall inventory accuracy.
- Prepare and process inbound returns (reverse logistics), inspecting items and updating system records accordingly.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc requests from leadership, such as researching receiving discrepancies or pulling specific product data from the WMS.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements for the receiving dock.
- Collaborate with the inventory team to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies originating from the receiving process.
- Participate in team meetings and safety briefings, actively contributing to a culture of safety and efficiency.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Certified Forklift Operator (Sit-down, Stand-up, Reach Truck)
- Proficiency with RF (Radio Frequency) scanning guns and technology
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as Manhattan, Blue Yonder, or SAP EWM
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs) and packing slips
- Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Excel)
- Ability to operate an electric or manual pallet jack safely and efficiently
- Understanding of basic inventory management and control principles
