Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the professional installation of telecommunications services, including high-speed internet, VoIP, and video, at residential and commercial customer locations.
- Perform the physical installation, termination, and certification of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, coaxial, and fiber optic wiring, ensuring adherence to BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards.
- Mount and configure a wide range of networking and customer-premises equipment (CPE), such as modems, routers, wireless access points, switches, and optical network terminals (ONTs).
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve service impairments and technical issues, utilizing systematic methods to identify root causes in cabling, hardware, or software configurations.
- Use specialized testing equipment, including signal level meters, multimeters, toners, and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), to verify signal integrity and system performance.
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to ensure accurate placement and connection of all system components.
- Interact directly with customers in a professional and courteous manner, explaining the work being performed, providing education on service features, and ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
- Perform comprehensive site surveys to assess the installation environment, identify potential challenges, and determine the optimal routing for cables and placement of equipment.
- Complete all required documentation, including work orders, service tickets, and inventory usage reports, with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness using mobile software platforms.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and materials stocked in a company-provided vehicle, ensuring all resources are in good working order and accounted for.
- Adhere rigorously to all company and industry safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ladder safety, and awareness of potential job-site hazards.
- Respond to on-call or emergency service requests as part of a scheduled rotation, providing after-hours support to resolve critical customer outages.
- Methodically troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity and performance issues within a customer's location, identifying sources of interference and optimizing network coverage.
- Perform system upgrades and equipment swaps, ensuring a seamless transition for the customer with minimal service disruption.
- Collaborate effectively with dispatchers, technical support teams, and other field personnel to coordinate work and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for service upgrades or additional products that could enhance the customer's experience and meet their evolving needs.
- Conduct wall-fishing and other cable-pulling techniques through walls, ceilings, and conduit with minimal cosmetic impact on the customer's property.
- Terminate various connectors, including RJ-45, RJ-11, F-connectors, and fiber optic connectors (SC, LC), ensuring clean, reliable connections.
- Verify that newly installed systems meet or exceed all performance specifications before finalizing the job and leaving the customer premises.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, reflecting positively on the organization's commitment to quality and service.
- Disconnect and recover company equipment from former customer locations while ensuring the premises are left in a clean and orderly state.
Secondary Functions
- Assist senior technicians or engineering teams with complex network deployments and system upgrades in larger commercial or multi-dwelling unit (MDU) projects.
- Provide basic, on-site education to customers on how to use their newly installed services, applications, and equipment effectively.

Required Skills & Competencies
