Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Read, interpret, and work from complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine equipment layout and installation procedures.
  • Install, assemble, and set up a wide range of heavy industrial machinery and equipment, such as conveyors, robotic systems, production lines, packaging machines, and structural steel components.
  • Perform precision leveling and alignment of machinery and equipment components using advanced tools like laser trackers, dial indicators, and optical transits to meet strict operational tolerances.
  • Execute rigging and lifting plans for heavy equipment, safely operating cranes, forklifts, aerial lifts, and other material handling equipment to move and position components.
  • Anchor machinery to foundations, which may involve drilling and setting anchor bolts in concrete, and ensuring structural stability.
  • Fabricate and modify components on-site as needed, utilizing skills in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick), cutting, grinding, and fitting to resolve unforeseen installation challenges.
  • Connect and troubleshoot basic electrical wiring for motors and control panels under the guidance of an electrician, ensuring proper power supply to installed equipment.
  • Install and connect hydraulic and pneumatic lines, checking for leaks and ensuring systems are properly pressurized and functional.
  • Perform initial start-up and commissioning of equipment, running tests to verify functionality, and making necessary adjustments to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and client representatives to ensure installation projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Adhere strictly to all site-specific and company-wide safety protocols (e.g., Lockout/Tagout procedures, fall protection, PPE usage) to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic issues that arise during the installation and commissioning process, implementing effective solutions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Provide training or demonstrations to client personnel on the basic operation and maintenance of newly installed equipment.
  • Complete detailed daily reports, installation checklists, and other project documentation to track progress and report on project status.
  • Perform dismantling and relocation of existing machinery and equipment, carefully preparing it for transport and re-installation at a new site.
  • Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools, including impact wrenches, grinders, drills, pipe threaders, and precision measurement instruments.
  • Inspect and verify that all delivered components and parts match the project specifications and are free from damage before beginning installation.
  • Grout equipment bases and machine foundations to provide a solid, level, and vibration-dampening mounting surface.
  • Work effectively as part of a dynamic installation team, communicating clearly with colleagues to coordinate tasks and ensure seamless workflow.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and mechanical/electrical schematics.
  • Advanced rigging, signaling, and lifting techniques for heavy equipment.
  • Welding (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and metal fabrication skills.
  • Operation of material handling equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts (certification preferred).
  • Proficiency with a wide array of hand, electric, and pneumatic tools.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems installation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with precision alignment tools such as laser alignment systems, dial indicators, and micrometers.
  • Mechanical assembly and disassembly of complex machinery.
  • Understanding and application of industrial safety standards (OSHA 10/30 preferred).
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including wiring motors and control components.

Educational Background

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

2-7 years of hands-on experience in industrial installation, millwrighting, or a related skilled trade.

Experience within specific industries such as automotive manufacturing, food and beverage processing, warehouse automation, or power generation is highly valued.
