Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate basic production line machinery and heavy equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes, after receiving proper training and certification.
- Load and unload raw materials, finished goods, and equipment from trucks, pallets, and shipping containers, ensuring proper handling and placement.
- Manually move, lift, carry, and stack materials, products, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the facility to support production and logistics needs.
- Perform rigorous quality control checks on raw materials and finished products to identify defects, ensure compliance with specifications, and report any discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to all company, state, and federal safety protocols, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area by sweeping, removing debris, and properly storing tools and materials to ensure a safe operational environment.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and written instructions to determine job specifications, material requirements, and daily tasks.
- Utilize a variety of hand tools (e.g., wrenches, hammers) and power tools (e.g., drills, grinders) to assist in assembly, fabrication, or maintenance tasks.
- Monitor production processes and equipment, promptly reporting any malfunctions, operational issues, or potential hazards to the shift supervisor or maintenance department.
- Package, label, and prepare finished products for shipment, ensuring accuracy in counts and proper protection for transit.
- Assist skilled tradespeople, such as welders, mechanics, and electricians, with their duties by fetching tools, holding materials, and performing preparatory work.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and making minor adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
- Accurately measure, weigh, and count products and materials using scales, tape measures, and calipers to ensure they meet precise order requirements.
- Sort and segregate materials for processing, recycling, or disposal according to established company and environmental guidelines.
- Document production data, such as quantities produced, cycle times, and scrap rates, on paper logs or within a digital tracking system.
Secondary Functions
- Participate actively in inventory management activities, including cycle counts and physical inventory, to ensure stock accuracy.
- Cross-train in different departments or on various production lines to provide versatile support and cover for team member absences.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvement, enhanced safety, and increased efficiency.
- Attend all required safety meetings, training sessions, and workshops to stay current on best practices and new operational procedures.
