Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, maintain, and communicate detailed short-term and long-term production schedules based on sales forecasts, new customer orders, and finished goods inventory targets.
- Analyze production specifications, plant capacity data, and process flows to determine comprehensive manufacturing requirements, including human resources, equipment, and tooling.
- Create, release, and manage all production work orders within the ERP system, ensuring accuracy of BOMs, routings, and required completion dates.
- Continuously monitor production progress against the established schedule, proactively identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks, delays, or deviations through collaboration with department supervisors.
- Act as the primary liaison between Sales, Customer Service, Production, Procurement, and Logistics to ensure alignment and clear communication on priorities and schedule changes.
- Perform robust capacity requirements planning (CRP), analyzing load against available capacity and providing recommendations for overtime, staffing adjustments, or capital investment.
- Manage and optimize inventory levels for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods to meet service level goals while minimizing carrying costs and obsolescence risk.
- Lead daily and weekly production planning meetings to review performance, set priorities for the shop floor, and resolve any immediate scheduling or material-related conflicts.
- Drive the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process by preparing supply-side data, scenario analyses, and performance reports to facilitate executive decision-making.
- Analyze and interpret demand signals, including historical data and sales forecasts, to predict future production needs and identify potential variability.
- Resolve material shortage issues by working closely with the procurement team to expedite deliveries and find alternative solutions without disrupting the production flow.
- Continuously evaluate and refine planning parameters within the ERP/MRP system, such as safety stock levels, lead times, lot sizes, and reorder points, to improve planning accuracy.
- Identify and champion process improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and shorten lead times.
- Generate and present regular, insightful reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including On-Time Delivery (OTD), Schedule Attainment, Capacity Utilization, and Inventory Turns.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Quality teams to facilitate the smooth introduction of new products (NPI) into manufacturing, planning for trial runs and initial production ramp-ups.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and perform exploratory data analysis to investigate production issues or support business case development.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's supply chain technology stack by providing user feedback and participating in system upgrade projects.
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to effectively schedule preventative maintenance activities with minimal disruption to production output.
- Assist in the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all planning and scheduling processes.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams aimed at improving overall operational performance, cost reduction, or quality enhancement.
- Develop and manage contingency plans to address unforeseen disruptions, such as equipment failure or supplier delays, to maintain business continuity.
