Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Skillfully set up, calibrate, and operate a variety of large-format digital printers, including UV flatbed, latex, and roll-to-roll machines (e.g., Vutek, HP Scitex, Mimaki, Roland).
- Meticulously interpret and execute complex work orders, ensuring all specifications for quantity, substrate type, color profiles, and finishing are precisely met.
- Manage and process digital files using RIP (Raster Image Processor) software, such as Onyx, Caldera, or Fiery, to optimize for print quality, color accuracy, and material usage.
- Conduct rigorous in-process and final quality control inspections to identify and rectify any defects, color shifts, or printing imperfections, guaranteeing a flawless final product.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all printing equipment, including cleaning print heads, checking fluid levels, and troubleshooting mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
- Expertly handle and load a wide range of substrates, from rigid boards like foamcore and acrylic to flexible media like vinyl, banner material, and canvas.
- Monitor print jobs in real-time, making necessary adjustments to machine settings, speed, and ink flow to maintain consistent output throughout long production runs.
- Maintain a deep understanding of color theory and apply advanced color management techniques, including the use of spectrophotometers, to match brand-specific PMS colors and ensure consistency across platforms.
- Document all production-related data, including material consumption, ink usage, and job completion times, in our production management system for accurate tracking and reporting.
- Prepare printed materials for the finishing department by accurately cutting, trimming, and staging jobs according to their next production step.
- Systematically troubleshoot and resolve common printing errors, such as banding, artifacting, and media feeding issues, with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to and enforce all workplace safety protocols, particularly those related to machine operation, chemical handling, and material lifting.
- Efficiently manage multiple print jobs simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Collaborate closely with the prepress and design teams to review incoming files, suggest improvements, and ensure all artwork is print-ready.
- Create and maintain custom print profiles for various media types to streamline setup processes and ensure repeatable, high-quality results.
- Safely unload, transport, and organize large and heavy printing materials within the production facility using pallet jacks or other equipment.
- Keep the printing area clean, organized, and well-stocked to promote an efficient and safe working environment.
- Stay current with emerging printing technologies, materials, and techniques to contribute innovative ideas for process improvement.
- Assist in training junior operators and new team members on machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Manage the inventory of essential printing supplies, including inks, cleaning solutions, and replacement parts, and submit timely reorder requests.
- Package and label finished print jobs carefully to prevent damage during transit and ensure they are clearly identifiable for shipping or installation teams.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Large-Format Printer Operation: Proven experience with industrial printers such as EFI Vutek, HP Scitex/Latex, Durst, Agfa, Mimaki, or Roland.
- RIP Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of RIP software, particularly Onyx, Caldera, or Fiery, for file setup, nesting, and color profiling.
- Color Management: Strong understanding of color theory, CMYK vs. RGB color spaces, and experience with color matching tools like spectrophotometers.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Competency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for minor file adjustments, pre-flighting, and troubleshooting.
