Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and coordinate the daily activities of the production team to ensure manufacturing schedules are met and resources are allocated effectively to meet output targets.
  • Enforce and champion all company safety policies and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA), conducting regular safety audits and incident investigations to maintain a zero-incident work environment.
  • Train, mentor, and develop production staff, providing ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and formal performance reviews to build a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, efficiency, scrap rates, and downtime, analyzing data to identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and promote continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimize processes.
  • Ensure all products consistently meet or exceed established quality standards by implementing and monitoring quality control checks and collaborating with the Quality Assurance department.
  • Troubleshoot production line issues and equipment malfunctions in real-time, working closely with the maintenance department to minimize downtime and ensure swift resolutions.
  • Manage employee scheduling, including shift assignments, overtime distribution, vacation approvals, and timekeeping, to guarantee adequate staffing for operational needs.
  • Foster a positive, high-morale team environment by promoting open communication, actively listening to employee concerns, and facilitating effective conflict resolution.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and pre-shift huddles to communicate daily goals, safety topics, and pertinent company information, ensuring team alignment.
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials, work-in-progress, and supplies within the production area, ensuring accurate tracking and minimizing material waste.
  • Develop, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all production tasks to ensure operational consistency, safety, and quality.
  • Investigate and formally report on any workplace accidents, near-misses, or safety hazards, identifying root causes and implementing robust preventative measures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain, to ensure a seamless and efficient end-to-end production flow.
  • Utilize the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to manage production orders, track material consumption, and report on operational performance accurately.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in the selection and interviewing process for new production team members and oversee their successful onboarding and initial training.
  • Assist the Production Manager in developing departmental budgets and managing operational costs to meet financial objectives.
  • Support and lead special projects related to process optimization, new equipment installation, or new product introductions.
  • Prepare and present detailed performance reports and operational updates to senior management on a weekly or monthly basis.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in the plant's safety committee, actively contributing to the development and implementation of new safety programs and policies.

  • Lean Manufacturing Principles: Demonstrated experience in applying lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Poka-Yoke to drive efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Safety Management & OSHA Compliance: In-depth knowledge of industrial safety regulations and best practices for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Production Scheduling & Planning: Proficiency in creating and managing production schedules to balance labor, equipment, and materials for on-time delivery.
  • ERP/MRP Systems: Hands-on experience with Enterprise Resource Planning or Manufacturing Resource Planning software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Plex) for production tracking and inventory management.
  • Quality Control Methodologies: Solid understanding of quality assurance principles, root cause analysis, and statistical process control (SPC) to maintain product integrity.
  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to understand the fundamentals of industrial machinery and manufacturing processes to effectively troubleshoot operational issues.
