Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and monitor various production line machinery and heavy equipment, ensuring they run efficiently and safely according to established operational procedures.
  • Perform intricate assembly of components and sub-assemblies by hand or with tools, meticulously following technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Conduct rigorous in-process quality control checks and final inspections on products to identify defects and ensure they meet precise company and customer specifications.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify product dimensions and adherence to quality standards.
  • Handle, transport, and stage raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods using pallet jacks, dollies, or certified forklift operation.
  • Read and interpret work orders, schematics, and production schedules to determine job specifications, material requirements, and tooling instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles, lean manufacturing methodologies, and established housekeeping standards.
  • Strictly follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery, such as cleaning, lubricating, and making minor adjustments to ensure optimal performance and reduce downtime.
  • Accurately document production data, including output volume, quality checks, and downtime, using manual logs or digital manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Package, label, and prepare finished products for shipping, ensuring correct counts, secure packaging, and proper identification for inventory and logistics teams.
  • Identify and troubleshoot minor operational problems with equipment, reporting complex issues promptly to maintenance technicians or supervisors for resolution.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality assurance personnel to meet production goals and facilitate a smooth workflow.
  • Safely operate various hand tools and power tools (e.g., drills, grinders, saws) to fabricate, cut, shape, and finish materials as required by the job.
  • Physically lift, move, and position heavy materials and components, often weighing up to 50 pounds, consistently throughout the shift.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the setup and changeover of production lines for different products, minimizing downtime and ensuring a quick transition between runs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback and suggestions for enhancing safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts and maintaining accurate records of raw materials and supplies in the work area.
  • Train new or less-experienced team members on standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and quality requirements as directed by a supervisor.
  • Sort, process, and properly dispose of scrap materials and waste in accordance with company and environmental regulations.
  • Perform general labor duties and support other departments as needed to meet overall plant production targets and business objectives.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Machine Operation: Proven ability to operate and monitor production machinery, including but not limited to presses, lathes, CNC machines, and automated assembly equipment.
  • Forklift Operation: Valid certification and experience in safely operating a forklift and other material handling equipment like pallet jacks.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the use of various hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers) and power tools (drills, grinders).
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and manufacturing schematics.
  • Precision Measurement: Competency in using measurement instruments like calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to ensure product accuracy.
  • Safety Protocol Adherence: Strong knowledge of workplace safety standards, including OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and proper use of PPE.
  • Basic Mathematics: Solid understanding of basic math, fractions, and measurements for production and quality control tasks.
  • Lean Manufacturing Principles: Familiarity with concepts like 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction is highly beneficial.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Certificate from a vocational or technical school in a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-3 years in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.

Preferred: 1+ years of direct experience in a fast-paced assembly line or machine operating role is highly desirable. Experience in an ISO-certified facility is a plus.
