Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively engage with clients in a warm, polished, and professional manner, creating an inviting and luxurious atmosphere from the moment they enter.
  • Conduct in-depth consultations to uncover client needs, understanding the specific occasion, personal style, and budget to provide tailored recommendations.
  • Develop and demonstrate superior product knowledge across all collections, including the technical specifics of diamonds, colored gemstones, precious metals, and watch movements.
  • Articulately educate clients on the key attributes of jewelry, such as the 4Cs of diamonds (Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat), and the heritage of the brand or designer.
  • Master the art of storytelling to create an emotional connection between the client and the jewelry, highlighting the craftsmanship, inspiration, and symbolism of each piece.
  • Drive and achieve personal and store-wide sales targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including sales per hour (SPH) and average transaction value (ATV).
  • Meticulously build and cultivate a personal client book through consistent and thoughtful clienteling, including follow-up communications, and acknowledging special occasions.
  • Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools to log client interactions, track preferences, and manage a pipeline of potential sales and future needs.
  • Manage the entire sales process, from initial discovery and product presentation to closing the sale and ensuring a seamless transaction.
  • Facilitate special orders and custom design requests, acting as the primary liaison between the client, designers, and artisans to ensure the final piece meets expectations.
  • Expertly handle client objections and negotiate terms of a sale respectfully and effectively, while adhering to company policies.
  • Assist clients with after-sales services, including coordinating repairs, resizing, and providing routine cleaning and inspection of their pieces.
  • Accurately and efficiently process all transactions on the Point of Sale (POS) system, including sales, returns, exchanges, and payments.
  • Adhere with unwavering diligence to all security protocols for handling, showing, and storing high-value merchandise, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Represent the brand with poise and professionalism during in-store events, trunk shows, and private client appointments.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with daily inventory management tasks, including receiving new shipments, conducting cycle counts, and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Contribute to the visual merchandising of the store, ensuring all displays are immaculate, well-lit, and arranged according to brand directives to maximize appeal.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and organization on the sales floor, in consultation areas, and within back-of-house storage.
  • Actively participate in continuous training and professional development to stay current on new collections, industry trends, and gemological knowledge.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team environment by supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and contributing to shared store goals.
  • Prepare the sales floor for daily operations, including setting up displays, replenishing supplies, and ensuring all elements are client-ready.
  • Handle client inquiries received via phone, email, or digital platforms with the same level of care and professionalism as in-person interactions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • POS System Proficiency: Experience operating Point of Sale systems for processing complex transactions, including special orders and returns.
  • CRM Software Experience: Competency in using Customer Relationship Management tools for clienteling, tracking sales funnels, and managing communications.
  • Fine Jewelry & Gemstone Knowledge: A strong foundational understanding of precious metals, diamond grading (4Cs), colored gemstones, and jewelry construction.
  • Luxury Product Handling: The ability to handle delicate, high-value items with extreme care and confidence.
  • Basic Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn new software systems.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Gemology (GIA, AJP, GG certifications are highly desirable)

  • Fashion Merchandising
  • Business Administration

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-5 years of experience in a client-facing role, preferably within a commission-based sales environment.

Preferred: 2+ years of direct experience in fine jewelry sales, luxury retail, or high-end watch sales is strongly preferred. A proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales goals and building a client book is a significant asset.
