Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive, one-on-one client assessments to evaluate skills, aptitudes, interests, and work history, utilizing a variety of vocational assessment tools and in-depth interviews.
  • Provide expert guidance and hands-on assistance in crafting, editing, and tailoring professional resumes, cover letters, and other application materials to align with specific job descriptions and industry standards.

  • Teach and implement effective, multi-faceted job search strategies, including navigating online job boards, leveraging social media platforms like LinkedIn, networking effectively, and accessing the hidden job market.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with local employers, recruiters, and hiring managers to create a pipeline of job opportunities and advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging group workshops and seminars on a wide range of career-related topics, such as resume writing, interview skills, financial literacy, and workplace professionalism.
  • Meticulously document all client interactions, progress, action plans, and outcomes in a case management system, ensuring compliance with organizational and funding source requirements.
  • Identify and refer clients to appropriate community resources, social services, and support programs for issues that may present barriers to employment, such as housing, childcare, mental health, or transportation.
  • Continuously research and stay informed about current labor market trends, in-demand industries, wage information, and required qualifications to provide up-to-date and relevant advice.
  • Guide clients through the complexities of online application systems, providing technical assistance and strategic advice to ensure successful and error-free submission.
  • Offer follow-up support and job retention services to newly employed clients to help them navigate workplace challenges, adapt to their new role, and ensure long-term career success.
  • Administer and interpret a variety of formal and informal career assessment instruments (e.g., Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory) to help clients gain self-awareness and explore suitable career paths.
  • Effectively manage a diverse caseload of clients, prioritizing needs, scheduling appointments, and tracking progress towards individual employment goals in a timely and organized manner.
  • Conduct outreach activities to community organizations, educational institutions, and public events to promote program services and recruit new clients in need of employment support.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and inclusive counseling services to a diverse population, including individuals with disabilities, veterans, recent immigrants, and those with significant barriers to employment.
  • Coach clients on strategies for researching salary expectations and effectively negotiating job offers, compensation, and benefits packages to ensure they are fairly compensated.
  • Advise clients on professional etiquette, workplace communication, conflict resolution, and other soft skills essential for successful integration and advancement in a professional environment.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality of all client information and records in accordance with ethical guidelines and legal requirements such as HIPAA or FERPA.
  • Assist clients in identifying and enrolling in relevant vocational training, certification programs, or higher education to bridge skill gaps and increase marketability.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as job placements, retention rates, and wage gains to stakeholders and funding bodies.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
