Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and components, including pipes, drains, fittings, valves, and fixtures for water distribution, sanitary, and storm drainage systems.
Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, and detailed drawings to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste/drainage systems.
Diagnose complex plumbing issues by performing thorough inspections, running pressure tests, and utilizing specialized diagnostic equipment to accurately identify the root cause of leaks or malfunctions.
Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of various materials such as copper, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, and PEX using hand and power tools.
Join pipes and fittings using a variety of techniques, including soldering, brazing, threading, and cementing, ensuring secure and leak-proof connections according to specifications.
Install and service a wide range of plumbing fixtures and appliances, such as toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers, water heaters, garbage disposals, and dishwashers.
Clear blockages and obstructions from sewer lines and drains using manual and powered equipment like drain snakes, augers, and hydro-jetting machinery.
Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure long-term functionality and prevent future breakdowns, including inspecting valves, testing for leaks, and cleaning systems.
Ensure all plumbing work is performed in strict accordance with the latest local, state, and national plumbing codes, safety standards, and building regulations.
Test plumbing systems for leaks and other issues by filling them with water or air and reading pressure gauges to ensure the system is sound.
Repair or replace broken or leaking drainage lines, water supply lines, and gas lines, often requiring excavation and backfilling.
Respond to emergency service calls for urgent issues like burst pipes, sewer backups, or gas leaks, often working after hours or on weekends to restore safety and functionality.
Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes to the required angle and length using hand and power tools or machines.
Install and maintain gas lines and systems, including connecting gas-powered appliances and performing leak detection and repair.
Work with other construction professionals, such as electricians, carpenters, and HVAC technicians, to coordinate installations and ensure project timelines are met.

Secondary Functions
