Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Skillfully operate and monitor various industrial pumps (e.g., centrifugal, positive displacement) and automated valve systems to transfer juice, concentrates, purees, and other liquid ingredients according to precise production schedules.
  • Expertly set up product transfer pathways by connecting and disconnecting large-diameter hoses, pipes, and fittings to tankers, silos, and processing tanks, ensuring all connections are secure and leak-free.
  • Execute and meticulously document full Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Sanitize-In-Place (SIP) cycles on all equipment, including pumps, transfer lines, and tanks, to guarantee microbial control and prevent product cross-contamination.
  • Continuously monitor process parameters through Human-Machine Interface (HMI) control panels, observing flow rates, line pressures, temperatures, and tank volumes, and making real-time adjustments to maintain product integrity and safety.
  • Perform critical in-process quality assurance checks by drawing product samples at designated points and using basic lab equipment to test attributes like Brix (sugar content), pH, and acidity.
  • Maintain impeccable and accurate production records, batch logs, and sanitation checklists, ensuring complete traceability and compliance with FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and internal quality standards.
  • Operate forklifts and other powered industrial trucks to move totes, drums, and pallets of ingredients or supplies within the pump room and adjacent production areas.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and basic preventative maintenance tasks on pumps, gaskets, valves, and hoses to identify wear and tear and prevent equipment failure during production runs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common operational issues, such as air-locked lines, pump cavitation, or minor leaks, to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Manage the unloading of raw juice from tanker trucks, including verifying paperwork, connecting transfer lines, and overseeing the entire pumping process into designated storage silos.
  • Adhere strictly to all plant safety protocols, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Accurately read and interpret process flow diagrams (P&IDs) and batch sheets to understand and execute complex product transfer and blending sequences.
  • Monitor and control filter systems integral to the pumping process, performing backflushes or filter changes as needed to ensure product clarity and quality.
  • Ensure the correct sequencing of product and ingredient transfers to blending tanks to meet specific recipe requirements, preventing costly batching errors.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in the pump room and all work areas, following 5S principles to create a safe and efficient work environment.

Secondary Functions

  • Collaborate closely with the Blending, Processing, and Packaging departments to coordinate the timely transfer of products, ensuring a seamless flow of operations and minimizing production bottlenecks.
  • Assist the inventory control team by providing accurate measurements and documentation of raw material usage and transfers between storage tanks.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement projects and team meetings, offering practical suggestions for enhancing safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support maintenance technicians during more complex repairs or preventative maintenance schedules by providing operational insight and assisting with equipment preparation.
  • Train new or less experienced operators on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and the proper use of pumping and sanitation equipment.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Pump Operation & Troubleshooting: In-depth knowledge of operating and troubleshooting various types of sanitary food-grade pumps.
  • CIP/SIP Systems: Proficiency in executing automated and manual Clean-In-Place and sanitation procedures.
  • GMP & HACCP: Strong understanding and practical application of Good Manufacturing Practices and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic maintenance, assemble/disassemble equipment, and diagnose mechanical issues.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
