Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Conduct meticulous pre-jump inspections and functional checks on all parachuting equipment, including main and reserve canopies, harnesses, and Automatic Activation Devices (AADs), to guarantee 100% operational readiness.
Develop, refine, and deliver comprehensive ground school training curriculum covering emergency procedures, body flight mechanics, canopy control, and landing techniques.
Serve as the primary instructor for various jump disciplines, including static-line, tandem, and Accelerated Free Fall (AFF), adapting teaching methods to suit individual student learning curves.
Perform Jumpmaster duties aboard various aircraft, including conducting pre-flight briefings, spotting exit points, assessing weather conditions, and ensuring the safe exit and dispatch of all jumpers.
Inspect, maintain, repair, and pack main and reserve parachute systems in strict accordance with FAA regulations and manufacturer specifications.
Maintain detailed and accurate logs for all equipment inspections, maintenance cycles, repairs, and jump activities, ensuring a clear and auditable history.
Lead and execute complex airborne operations, including High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) and High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) jumps, requiring specialized equipment and procedures.
Manage and control the inventory of all airborne operations equipment, including parachutes, altimeters, oxygen systems, and ancillary gear.
Provide expert coaching and real-time feedback to students and jumpers during freefall and canopy flight via ground-to-air communication or in-air instruction.
Respond immediately and effectively to in-air emergencies or equipment malfunctions, guiding jumpers through established emergency procedures to ensure a safe outcome.
Evaluate and certify the proficiency of students and other instructors, ensuring they meet and exceed all required performance standards.
Plan and coordinate jump operations with pilots, air traffic control, and ground crew to ensure seamless and safe integration of air and ground activities.
Conduct thorough post-jump debriefings and after-action reviews to identify areas for improvement in technique, safety, and operational efficiency.
Stay current with the latest industry advancements, safety directives, and new equipment technologies, integrating them into training and operational protocols.
Perform duties as a Drop Zone Safety Officer (DZSO), overseeing all landing area activities and enforcing safety regulations for all participants.
Operate and maintain vertical wind tunnel systems for simulation training, providing a controlled environment for jumpers to practice freefall maneuvers.
Develop and implement comprehensive risk management plans and emergency action plans for all phases of airborne operations.
Mentor junior instructors and riggers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safety.
Assist in the investigation and reporting of any incidents or accidents, providing expert analysis to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
Maintain peak physical conditioning to meet the rigorous demands of instructional jumps, high-altitude operations, and emergency response.

Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

FAA Senior or Master Parachute Rigger Certification: Mandatory for the inspection, packing, and maintenance of reserve canopies.
USPA D-License: Verifying extensive experience with a significant number of logged jumps.
USPA Instructional Ratings: Current and verifiable ratings such as Accelerated Free Fall Instructor (AFF-I) and Tandem Instructor (Tandem-I).
Jumpmaster Certification: Formal qualification from a recognized military or civilian program.
Parachute Systems Expertise: In-depth knowledge of both static-line and freefall (Ram-Air) parachute assemblies, including troubleshooting and repair.
