Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and efficiently lift, carry, and load a wide variety of items, including furniture, appliances, construction debris, and yard waste, often weighing 75-100 pounds or more, utilizing proper lifting techniques and teamwork.
  • Operate a commercial vehicle (typically a 1-2 ton dump truck) in a safe, courteous, and law-abiding manner, adhering to all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company-specific driving policies.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, meticulously checking fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, and brakes to ensure roadworthiness and operational safety.
  • Engage directly with residential and commercial clients upon arrival to provide friendly, transparent, and accurate on-site price estimates for junk removal services based on volume, item type, and truck space utilization.
  • Clearly communicate the service process, pricing structure, and value proposition to clients, effectively answering questions and addressing concerns to secure job approval.
  • Strategically and thoughtfully load items into the truck, maximizing space and ensuring safe transport by properly securing and arranging the load.
  • Exercise extreme care and attention to detail when maneuvering items out of client properties to prevent any damage to walls, floors, doorways, and surrounding property.
  • Process customer payments on-site using a mobile point-of-sale (POS) system, handle cash transactions accurately, and ensure all transaction records are correctly completed.
  • Navigate to multiple job sites efficiently throughout the day using GPS and routing software, adapting to traffic and schedule changes to maintain on-time arrivals.
  • Sort and separate removed items at the truck, identifying materials suitable for donation, recycling, or special waste disposal in accordance with local regulations and company sustainability goals.
  • Transport and unload materials at designated transfer stations, recycling centers, and donation facilities, adhering to the specific procedures of each location.
  • Maintain constant, professional communication with the dispatch or operations center, providing status updates on job progress, delays, and completion.
  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service from the initial greeting to the final sweep-up, aiming to exceed client expectations and generate positive reviews and referrals.
  • Perform a final walk-through with the client to ensure all agreed-upon items have been removed and the work area is left clean and tidy.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, maintaining a professional appearance, a positive attitude, and wearing the company-provided uniform correctly at all times.

Secondary Functions

  • Distribute marketing materials, such as flyers and door hangers, in service areas during downtime or as part of targeted promotional campaigns.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential sales opportunities, such as upselling additional services or noting potential commercial client leads.

  • Physical Strength & Stamina: The ability to repeatedly lift, carry, load, and unload heavy and awkward items (75+ lbs) and sustain physical exertion for an entire workday.
  • Logistical & Spatial Planning: Skill in strategically assessing and packing a truck to maximize capacity, ensure load stability, and segregate materials for disposal.

Educational Background

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years. This is often considered an entry-level position.

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of experience in a role requiring physical labor and direct customer interaction, such as moving, general labor, delivery, landscaping, or warehouse operations. A clean driving record is essential.
