Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the end-to-end juror summoning process, including generating and mailing summonses and questionnaires using the court's Jury Management System (JMS).
  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective jurors, professionally and empathetically responding to a high volume of inquiries via phone, email, and in-person visits regarding summonses, service obligations, and postponements.
  • Conduct comprehensive and engaging orientation sessions for panels of new jurors, clearly articulating their duties, the court's expectations, and the sequence of events in the trial process.
  • Meticulously review and process juror qualification forms, analyzing responses to determine eligibility and processing requests for excusals, deferrals, or disqualifications based on statutory guidelines.
  • Maintain and ensure the absolute integrity and accuracy of the master juror database, continuously updating records with changes in address, status, and service history.
  • Coordinate the complex daily logistics of juror movement and allocation, ensuring panels are assembled and delivered to the correct courtrooms on schedule for voir dire.
  • Manage the confidential jury selection process in the courtroom, assisting judges and attorneys by tracking peremptory challenges and challenges for cause.
  • Provide direct support to impaneled jurors throughout the duration of a trial, addressing their non-legal questions, ensuring their comfort, and managing their sequestration if required.
  • Act as a gatekeeper of information, vigilantly shielding jurors from any prohibited contact or external information that could compromise the fairness of a trial.
  • Accurately calculate and process juror attendance fees, mileage reimbursements, and other stipends in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with fiscal policies and providing clear documentation.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute a wide array of official jury-related documents, including attendance records, payment vouchers, and certificates of service.
  • Operate and troubleshoot courtroom technology used during jury orientation and selection, such as audiovisual equipment, presentation software, and electronic check-in systems.
  • Collaborate closely with judges, judicial assistants, court clerks, and attorneys to ensure a seamless flow of communication and operations related to jury matters.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion when handling sensitive juror information and sealed court documents.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the compilation and analysis of statistical data regarding juror utilization, yield, and demographics to support strategic planning and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of jury management procedures, suggesting and helping to implement new efficiencies and best practices.
