Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Manage the entire jury lifecycle, from the random selection of names for the master jury wheel to the final payment and dismissal of jurors post-verdict.
  • Operate and maintain the court's automated Jury Management System (JMS) to create qualified jury wheels, process questionnaires, and randomly summon potential jurors.
  • Meticulously review and process thousands of juror qualification questionnaires, accurately determining statutory eligibility for service.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for prospective jurors, responding to a high volume of complex inquiries via telephone, email, and in-person, providing clear and empathetic guidance.
  • Independently evaluate and render decisions on juror requests for excuses, postponements, and deferrals, applying court policy and legal guidelines with consistency and fairness.
  • Prepare, mail, and meticulously track jury summonses, questionnaires, and related correspondence, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to a large pool of citizens.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct comprehensive juror orientation sessions, confidently presenting information to large groups about their civic duty, the trial process, and court procedures.
    s- Calculate, process, and manage all aspects of juror attendance, payroll, and travel reimbursement, ensuring accurate and timely payment for service.
  • Provide direct, hands-on support to judges and attorneys during the voir dire (jury selection) process, including randomizing the panel, tracking challenges, and seating the final jury.
  • Act as the dedicated attendant for empaneled and deliberating juries, safeguarding their needs, ensuring their privacy, and coordinating sequestration logistics when required.
  • Uphold and enforce the absolute confidentiality and security of all juror personal information, court proceedings, and deliberations with the utmost integrity.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain detailed statistical records and reports on juror utilization, demographic composition, summons yield rates, and other key performance indicators for court leadership.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve a wide array of logistical and personal issues that arise during a juror's term, including scheduling conflicts, medical needs, and transportation.
  • Collaborate closely with judges' chambers, the Clerk of Court, and other court departments to accurately forecast and prepare for jury needs in a dynamic trial schedule.
  • Ensure all jury-related activities are in strict compliance with federal, state, and local statutes, the United States Constitution, and the court's official Jury Plan.
  • Manage the physical jury assembly room and deliberation suites, ensuring a professional, secure, and welcoming environment for all citizens called to service.
  • Develop, write, and update juror-facing content, including instructional materials, website information, and automated telephone messages to improve juror experience.
  • Draft, format, and prepare official court orders and legal documents related to jury matters, such as orders to show cause for non-compliant jurors, for judicial review.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, training and mentoring new clerks or team members on complex jury processes, software, and procedures.
  • Monitor and manage the jury administration budget, tracking and reporting on expenditures for juror fees, mileage, and operational supplies.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to juror demographics, turnout, and satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the court's Jury Plan and operational roadmap.
  • Collaborate with chambers, the clerk's office, and other court departments to translate judicial needs into streamlined jury management processes.

Experience Requirements

  • Direct, hands-on experience in jury administration, federal or state case management, or as a high-level courtroom deputy or paralegal is highly desirable. Experience working directly with the public in a regulatory or service-oriented capacity is a significant plus.
